It's been 5months since house officers and medical interns started working in some teaching hospitals like University Of Calabar Teaching Hospital without pay.

It's really been difficult on these interns in that after spending so many years in school it is also mandatory they go through another compulsory one year internship program before they're fully registered with their respective council.

During this one year program, they're entitled to some stipends ranging from #190,0000 to 135,000 respectively depending on the department.

This has been a different case for interns in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital as they've really not been given any cogent reason why they should work for 5months(November 2020- March 2021) without renumerations.

The hospital management recently released a circular claiming it's a national issue but then institutions like AEFUTHA, UBTH and others in the south south region has recently renumerated it's medical interns up until February 2021.

This further begs the question what exactly is UCTH not doing right?

A recent meeting was held with the CMAC and he claimed that the problem trancends from the federal government, as a nominal rule was approved by the federal government and the government is yet to oblige to payment.

It's really hard for medical interns working at UCTH currently as some cannot even feed anymore but compulsorily are mandated to work 5days in a week and work on call duties too.

So whom do we blame;
The Federal Government who has been negotiating with bandits but failing to pay it's doctors or should we blame the teaching hospital for recruiting interns when they don't have the resources to pay them?
