Hello Uncle, last week my mechanic removed the thermostat from my Accord 2007, this week the car overheated and the rings melted.
upon examination by two different mechanics, they recommend I change the engine but my main mechanic insisted I buy the authentic rings, top gasket, gum and connecting rod bearings.

The previous guys said it's a bad idea to ring Hondas and toyotas but my mech said he has ringed all of em in the past and even after 5 years those cars were still running.
Any headway pls?!

Congratulations for allowing the Kazeem to kazzeemize your car. Get a new engine or most preferably a new car if it's the same mech that ruined it who wanna "fix" it.

whatever you do, avoid that your so called mechanic henceforth. He's a very wicked human being who's more interested in his pocket not considering how you get your money. If you're in Lagos, call this man and do whatever he tells you 0803 391 0382

One lesson to be learnt.
Next time when you notice your temperature gauge going high.
Kindly park in a safe place and find a solution.
For your rings to be fried by overheating, then the vehicle definitely saw terrible things

Meanwhile, the car has never been overheated, I used to take to Lagos, Kwara, and imo from Kogi until last week the mech guy removed the thermostat and a rewire replaced a relay for the fan to speed more now I'm faced with the devil.

I've spoken to four other mechanics including Gazzuz, all of em recommended a new engine..
.. and I'm sure your guy will say same too but I've trusted my mech overtime cos we work for the same transport company.
He told me of such problems he had solved without changing the engines and the cars are still running after 5 years, I know of one Camry 2010 he ringed for a colleague too.

However, he urged me to get the ultra premium ring pairs, cos most part dealers sell fakes that would fail after two months, so I'm giving it a last try and I hope it wont end our relationship cos I really love the car.

Anty for the umpteenth time, listen to us, to Gazzuzz and to the 4 different mechanics you consulted and buy a new engine. Same mech that messed up your car and removed the thermostat which fried your engine is the same mechanic you want to yet again trust with the repairs with cos of his mention of premium rings whatever? A word is enough for the wise sha.

Just like the cylinder head can warp from excess heat, so can the engine block. As superheated areas of the engine block expand and contract, it can form cracks leading to significant oil leaks, loss of performance and further overheating. A cracked engine block can be extremely difficult and time-consuming to fix . Indeed, it's often better to have a new engine installed (or replace the car altogether) than to attempt to fix a cracked engine block.

Have the tech properly examine the block and head before venturing on this fix.

Personally I would advise you start afresh with a low mileage engine. Aluminum engines do not recover well after excessive overheating.

I really appreciate your input sir.
Only two engineers have seen it so far..
The first guy was the one that rescued me at Highway brakedown.
Initially he wanted to a quick fix by changing the top cylinder gasket and so but later called back to inform me about the fried ring pairs so I went with my mech and towed it back home over a 100km journey.
Upon close examination by my mech he concluded the pistons, block, cylinders and connecting rods were okay except for the rings, no cracks or whatsoever.
I will agree with you that the engine must have seen terrible things for the rings to have mellted but he insisted on premium rings instead of engine.
I could afford a new engine too but I felt theres no harm in trying..
So i'm buying the rings today and lubricants tomorrow..
I will keep you posted as we proceed.

Thanks again.

Can you afford to spend 100K on rigging the engine and after some months you will still have to buy another engine?
Why not safe yourself the stress and buy a low mileage engine and have peace of mind.
