Please forgive my English...

My name is Emmanuel Ahiafor from the East. Fourth child (3rd son) in a once family of four boys and a girl, the girl is the Eldest among us. My mom was a staff (typist) at NDA Kaduna in the early 90's. I and my immediate elder brother was enrolled into NDA nursery and primary school, while the others was in a different private school courtesy of mama, she wanted us to be Military men, so it was the foundation that she was laying. twas always music in our ears whenever she calls I and my Bro Future Generals. Life then was Bliss, based on how my mom was carrying the whole family along makes me believe she was the head of the home despite having a dad around. Not until mama fell ill and Died in the year 1996. That was when life took a dramatic turn...

... I was six, sitiing close to mama with my other siblings around, we where all shedding tears, why? because mama was shedding tears right on the Hospital bed.
I remembered how she called my Dad and said, he should make sure i and my bro becomes soldiers or at least one of us.
There was something she also said that got me surprised up till date... she said and I quote " no matter what happens don't go and sell that television, its for the kids, If you sell it you won't replace it, so please don't"... he knoded.

Just one month after moms death, Dad first sold the Television, sold all her wrappers, sold our breakable plates, sold and sold a lot of things until something happened....

But why are most Nigerian dads so miserable?!? I can't count how many horrible experiences I've heard about Nigerian dads.

We started seeing strange looking men looking for Dad, most times he would be inside but he would send one of us to lie that he was not around, it continued to the extent that Dad was no longer around, only seen when I and my siblings must have gone to bed.

I and my siblings saw the definition of real hunger, we couldn't even open up to any of our relatives because Dad made them look evil in our eyes. Three month after mom died, we lost our last born son, he was four at that time, not strong enough to deal with the absence of mama. (my moms name was Florence, while my brothers name was Daniel)

After we lost Daniel, my Sister was involved in a fatal crash that splitted her forehead on her way back from school. It was divine grace that saved her and gave her a second chance. Uptil today the scar is there.

We where all withdrawn from our various schools because we where not paying our school fees as supposed. My sister was trying to recover, while I and my other two Brothers remained at home.

In the year 97 Dad decided we should go to Government primary school (L.G.E.A) since there was no money, and Government school is Free. And during that time my sis just wrote her common entrance. He pushed her to go and be doing house girl job at 12, if she wants to go to secondary school. While I and my brothers should go to L.G.E.A

Brb...

My sister was always running back home complaining on how she was being abused, but my Dad was not bordered, he always sends her back whenever she comes home crying or complaining.

She started JS1 through the help of a philanthropist, without any contribution from my Dad. sometimes I and my brothers would go to the house where she works, we would observe before going to meet her, because of hunger, she would tie the food most times in a nylon and hand to us, with Joy we would depart to devour the food, and this continued until something happened.

On this fateful day, dad told us his sister would be coming to live with us, and she would be like a mother to us, that we should give her due respect and obey her instructions... Her name was Rose, she had just quit her job when she heard what was going on...
That was how she came around, she was tall, dark skinned like my Dad, with a long natural hair.

She was very friendly and jovial but you dare not make her repeat herself twice.

When she came, she started looking for a job in order to support the family, it was when the job she was looking for weren't coming that she thought us how to hawk bananas on the street.... That was how we started hawking Banana, in order to survive.
