That was how i bought an Etisalat line some years back and started getting credit alerts from two different banks i don’t use..... I was damn confused at first but then I realised someone else had used it before me. I even started getting messages from police officers. An officer once called me to congratulate me on my promotion to Inspector!!! I later stopped using the line though.....

Also, after my younger brother travelled to Canada, Mtn resold his line. Guess what?.... The new owner started recharging his line from my brother’s account. He was buying N10k credit. Sometimes N5k. My brother got several email alerts and later removed the line from his account.....

This one got me cracking

The sim I've been using all my life just all of a sudden started storing strange contacts.
Detected it when i was using Whatsapp. I wanted to limit my status views and then boom!i began to see strange contacts i never stored!
Hmmm!!

I've always suspected it's possible two people use the same numbers. It should probably be a mistake from the service provider. There was also a time I was receiving calls and messages from strangers. I started thinking my number must have been cloned somewhere.

I got a message from one of this betting site that I had a coupon of 1,200 that is about to expire, but I couldn't remember playing a bet on that site. Out of curiousity I had to give it a try and see using the link attached to the SMS, surprisingly it was true. I actually used the coupon but I began to wonder and tried to remember at what time did I registered on that site, so I checked the transaction history and found an account number with a particular bank, only the last four digits of the account was displayed, the account is not mine and I don't get messages from the bank or any funny call(s) yet. At that point it dawned on me that someone had previously used the supposedly new SIM card that I bought and registered around last year ending.

So my point now is this, why did this particular network re-sell a SIM card that was previously used by another person? Who knows the kind of person that had previously used the SIM card. Please NCC needs to look into this matter, before someone will buy a SIM that was previously used by a criminal, kidnappers or terrorist

I bought one yeye Airtel line like day. I just the look the guy account like Cinema. I pity the guy but if not for my wife.

Once bought an Airtel line unknown to me it was a recycled line. I stopped using it when some international n local numbers started calling me to remind me of certain deals.

Same issue i am having with my airtel line.

This happened to me. My sim got lost and I tried severally to retrieve it but with different levels of bottleneck, I had to forget the sim and get a new one. Now, in the cos of login into NIN mobile app, it was showing my old line and out of curiosity I tried the number and someone answered it.
This is a number I have used on several platforms as my security backup number, I contacted customer care and there response was that after a period of 12 months of non-usage, such inactive lines are usually reallocated and sold.

People who travel and are still interested in using the line usually do roaming so the line will be active throughout their stay.

Or drop the sim for a family member to be using once in a while.

Yeah, I once got a line previously used by a Chinese lady. I started getting messages as soon as installed Whatsapp (apparently, she didn't transfer her account to her new line). It wasn't funny. I was told to come and pick a new line but I eventually decided it wasn't a big deal.

I think NCC needs to review this recycling of numbers.
The duration is too short considering a lot of online activities (especially USSD banking) are linked to phone numbers, it should take at least one or two year before a number recycled.

Same here I'm tired of UBA & Zenith bank promo, banks were i never use.

Mine too, painful thing, I lost the glo sim pack and can't retrieve the line. Had to be removing that line from my accounts. If you call that line, someone will answer it.

Even the sim I use; I'm pretty sure I'm sharing that sim with someone else.

All lines are now rentals. It's only yours 6months after you last made any transactions on it. (Be it phone calls, text msg, data/credit recharge).

It's unfortunate, that previous owner and contacts may not know the line has be transferred to another person.

But I think you can also demand for a fresh sequenced number.

It is not lie. I've used a line that has been used b4 in the UK as well. Lines are rentals. Once it's no longer in use, it is rolled back into the system.

What I would expect telcos to do is to give it may be duration of 10years atleast before rolling it out.
