I have quite a share of the OP's experience. I've put off all running background data, including all apps that don't consume data but the effect was not significant. What other settings need to be adjusted to fix the problem?

Meanwhile check your app data usage to know which app is exhausting your data the most

Check what is draining your your data. Install a data metering app to see the what is using your data. Mtn data does not run like you explained here.

I also noticed it. I subbed 1 GB yesterday evening. After using only Nairaland, everything finished within an hour.

Go to Google and turn off auto update and background running.

Also find out about metering your instagram. I have forgotten how I did mine. There is a way you will set it, it won't consume much data.
