SUNNINO:
Dear NLANDers,I earnestly need your advice and assistance about an issue of disengagement benefits where I worked for 3 years and 8 months. I was disengaged from Union bank in 2017 and the letter stated that all benefits due to me will be paid after all deductions are made, after a while I did not hear from them, so I contacted the HR partner who directed me to another HR personnel in charge of benefits and he sent me a mail regarding the breakdown of it which he said, I am owing them because they gave us loan which was still running and I asked if I had not demand for my benefit will not have notified me of it and I was made to understand that they are to pay, because what is due to me covers the loan and I should be paid some balance. I have tried to reach them since no response and i am avoiding using court to address the issue, I preferred using alternative dispute resolution approach and they are not ready to cooperate.

This was a big mistake. There are two issues: your outstanding debt to the bank and your benefit. You should have followed up on your outstanding loan to establish the status of the loan. I really hope it's not still growing so it doesn't get you into more problems in the future.
This idea of forgetting loan obligations is not a good strategy. I know someone who did a similar thing and "forgot ", a small margin loan the stockbroking firm advanced and the person "forgot " landed the person in serious issues with AMCON years later and it took long time to sort and pay accrued interest and principal.
In my opinion, forgot the severance packages for now and focus on the loan clearance by expressing your readiness to know the status ahead of clearing it. You will realise that they will suddenly take you more seriously.
