I missed ya D!

Work has been really hectic these days, coupled with the heavy rainfall. undecided undecided

CSS has been really interesting too, and the course suggested by Boss @Tensazangetsu20 makes it even better because it's project based.

I learned some new stuff today:
1. Box shadow property.
2. Color function - Adjusting transparency of the color using the (r.g.b.a).
3. Article tag ( I'm still trying to find the major difference between this and the div or section tags.
4. List style - removing the bullet points from an unordered list.
5. More ways to combine class selectors.
6. Inherit value.

I'll try to recreate the hosting service page taught by Maxmillan tomorrow without cheating. grin grin

See ya!

Hey D! grin grin

I'm so excited because I successfully recreated the hosting page example taught by Max. smiley smiley My head became hot at some point that I had to take some time off. grin grin

Here's the link to the page I created on codepen: https://codepen.io/MirthOsas/pen/PomLrRe

I'll see ya soon D!

PS: Please, do well to view the the created page on a wide screen as it might be very ugly on small screens grin cheesy, I haven't learnt anything on responsiveness yet, bear with me. grin grin

I really love what you are doing, it is good.

I am a beginner too, and I would like to know Phow do you upload your files on codepen?

Hey D!

Combining work and learning isn't easy sometimes, one can finish from work and be fagged out that eating and going straight to bed are the only things one could do. cry cry

For some days now, it's been a repeat of already learned stuff... I also discovered the course I downloaded wasn't completely done as some videos aren't playing. I'll be downloading the course again undecided undecided

Later D!

Hey D!

Downloading the torrent files has proved to be a lil bit difficult, the files tend to stop downloading at 90+% and most of the videos end up not playing. I've wasted data oo. cry cry

I discovered that the torrent downloader automatically seeds the files around the 90+% stage which brings downloading to a halt.

I just found another site where I'd download the rar files for the course instead of torrent.. this should work.

Hey D! I'm back. smiley

So, I was able to download the complete files and that's exciting, especially after wasting lots of data prior. angry angry

I learned some new stuff last night:
1. How to make the edges of an image a perfect circle using the border-radius property, and adjusting both the width and height of the image.
2. How to use the float property - used basically for positioning image in texts.
3. Clear property (used this in line with the float property.
4. id selectors have a higher specificity than class and pseudo selectors.
5. The !important - this basically overrides specificity and using it isn't advisable.

I'll see ya later D!

I'm facing the same problem. Download stops around 90%.

Please what's the site for downloading the rar files.

My tech D! grin grin

I am here again. cool

I got to learn about:
1. How to add a background image to a webpage.
2. The position property whose default value is static, but can have other values like fixed, absolute, relative e.t.c.
3. The z-index property and it's importance.

Maximilian Schwarz is good meeeehhhnnn! smiley smiley

Omo! Thanks very much for this o. I have been looking for the javascript course by Maximilian Schwarz since yesterday, but I only got the torrent version (I no get power to download 19gb at a go). But I got the rar version of it from this site. Thanks once more.

As for your Programming journey, you're progressing remarkably well despite the fact that you're combining learning programming and working.

It took me roughly around 4 months to complete my html and css training, it could have taken lesser time but I'm currently a student and it's difficult juggling academic work and programming.

After you're done with css, check out frontend mentors and do their newbie challenge (about 6 or 7 challeneges) so you can be well grounded in css (worked very well for me) https://www.frontendmentor.io

Also, if you took the web development course in FreeCodeCamp, they give amazing projects at the end of css which helps to cement all you have learnt and also have a couple of projects to add to your portfolio. You will earn your certificate after completing the projects (I'm still in the middle of it).

ps: I acually learnt bootsrap for 3 weeks which was actually what extended the duration of my learning to 4 months (2 weeks for bootstrap 4, then a week to migrate to bootstrap 5). It's an amazing css framework.

Goodluck on your journey wink

Thanks Lyon. Indeed combining programming with something else that requires lots of attention isn't easy at all, but we'll be fine at long last. smiley

Thanks for the frontend mentors suggestion, I checked them out already, the newbie project preview looks great. I'd definitely do that once I'm done with the CSS course. I've already downloaded some html and css projects from YouTube, I'm going to get my hands dirty real soon. grin grin

A quick question, was the bootstrap course a standalone course or it's part of another course you downloaded?

It's actually a standalone, I heard about bootstrap after i finished learning css from sololearn, but the one on sololearn isn't well detailed. I checked freecodecamp and they recommended i learn javascript first before bootstrap, but i get coconut head. I went to w3schools and learnt bootstrap from there.

I also downloaded a video on youtube by freecodecamp and i will watch that one later after completing the projects i'm working on

Arise and shine D!

Today we're obeying the sit-at-home order here (although they said they've called it off.. nobody trust anybody like this, na who dey alive dey work grin grin), meaning no work. grin grin

I learned some stuff this morning:
1. Similarities between the fixed and absolute position values.
2. The Relative value for the position property.
3. Use of the overflow property and it's value - hidden.
4. Stacking context as using the z-index in combination with position property.
5. The caniuse site to check the browser support for the different properties and values.
Re: Diary Of An Aspiring Software/web Developer by MirthOsas(m): 11:11pm On Aug 24, 2021
Diaaaarrrryyyy!

I learned some new stuff today about background images:
1. Background size property - cover, contain..
2. Background position - center and others.
3. Background position - no-repeat.
4. Background clip - border-box.
5. Background origin - border-box.
6. Background attachment - scroll, fixed or local.

It's another day D!

I finished another module today, and its contents include:
1. How to style images and image layout.
2. Gradient - Linear and radial.
3. How to stack multiple backgrounds.
4. Filters - greyscale, blur, e.t.c.
5. Adding and styling SVGs.

I encountered a browser compatibility issue today, I actually tried using shorthand for the background property with different attributes, it didn't work on Microsoft edge which I have been using since I started this journey, but it worked on Google chrome.

I ain't touching Microsoft Edge ever.. grin grin

Yay! It's Friday D!

I actually learned about some units applicable to CSS today, their peculiarities and why they should(n't) be used. They include:
1. px
2. %
3. em
4. rem
5. vh
6. vw
7. vmin
8. vmax

We're making progress D! Cheers to consistency. cool

That is the essence of website responsiveness.
Your code has to display properly on most browsers not one.
Well done sir

Thanks boss. Meaning for a situation like this I'll have to make sure I write my code in a manner that's compatible with different browsers and in this case (background), I'll have to spell everything out individually right?

Sure.
You keep testing your codes till you get the one that has a perfect fit for more browsers and devices (PC, tablet, Mobile).
Same reason Developers end up learning a Stack of languages as one language might have the perfect fit to a cross-platform responsiveness and another language overs him all round coding flexibility.
