This is immensely helpful.

God bless you.

Errm ma/sir, I shall be tapping you for future insight in this industry ooo. grin

Aphrodite007:

You need experience. Try applying for a project assistant, project support or business support role. Use it to get in because you need project (preferably software or delivery experience).

Due to having such a certification, you’ll be “overqualified” for that role but if you’re lucky to have a greedy interviewer (like me), you’ll be in.

Stay 6-12 months and gain confidence/experience. that’s all you need for a proper scrum role elsewhere (don’t stay With the previous employer, they’ll keep making it look like they did you a favour).

Be patient. Start small. You won’t even remember the struggle when you’re turning down 65-75k jobs. As far as you’re in tech, you’ll win in the end.

Elders in the house ,I just got a small car ( 1.6 Citroën 2007 diesel auto drive ) for my dom care job with chikini money but on performing a rough estimate of the insurance online I was amazed to see the cost going over the roof ( 3,000£ ) which i feel can be due not using a uk license, pls I need guidance from some of my people that are more experience, what are those parameters that I can change while filling the detail online on those insurance portal that can make the price to come down and for some of those parameter , can the insurance actually confirm those information that you supplied if it true eg supposed daily mileage that you are going to cover annually ,duration of your using your international driving llicense etc

I don't know about any other thing but what I do know is that :-

1. You DO not want to start your life or driving life in the UK by giving false information on insurance application forms.

2. Insurance companies do compare notes with one another.

3. You don't want to mess with the British Financial Services Industry (of which Insurance belongs).

4. The UK keeps records like kilode and when you least expect it, it may come back to bite you.

5. If you can not afford to drive a particular car or any car at all, then don't drive.

6. False information on an insurance application form can lead to jail, substantial fines, and a criminal record.

I've had a UK licence for decades and I don't have a car.

IF you must drive a car, then research first online the total cost of running the car and only buy one when you are sure you can afford the insurance cost and other costs.

Thread with caution about supplying false information to insurance companies that are regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority or to any UK company for that matter.

how do our people in naija now get tier 2 sponsorship jobs if they have this bias? Sometimes unfortunately might not be because of c.v., it might be they found a British born or eu candidate.

Don't worry once they give you the job, your access would be restricted until your clearance come through. I have heard about situations where the security guard escort you to the loo.
The security clearance process, most especially, the DV is very intrusive. Be ready to answer questions regarding all your escapades like having side chicks, watching porn and gambling. You cannot lie about these things becausethey already know! Not excluding your family history in Naija. God help you if you got a Russian babe from Plenty of Fish grin

Yes they can confirm any information you supply to them so you have to be smart and truthful if you don’t want to invalidate your premium.

To be smart, you can make small (legal) tweak to your job title which will cut your car insurance costs. For example, a self employed plumber can claim to be a company owner, a journalist can claim to be a writer, a PhD student can claim to be a research scientist or a chef can claim to be a caterer. The bottom line is provided the job is exactly what you do, this is allowed and can make significant difference in the policy.

Adding additional experienced driver to your policy can give you good quotes

Try 3rd party, fire and theft rather than comprehensive policy

Adding years of no claim bonus (if you have any) to get the NCB discount

Years you have held the license will give insurance companies idea about your driving experience

Lastly, start making preparations on getting your FULL uk license before u get carried away

Have you considered NZ or Australia? Be warned that it is very very far from anywhere else. I always say NZ is what Nigeria would be like if it was classed as developed. It has lots of developing country vibes and attitudes and of course lots of opportunities for everyone. Once you have international experience, the world is your oyster! A work to residency visa gives you residency after 2 years and PR after 2 years so 4 years in total. Salaries are good (husbot and I have both doubled our UK wages) which will be frustrating for us when we return to the UK in 2 years time. It also has a small emerging Nigerian community (less than 1000 of us o!)

How can that work to residency be gotten and is there any reason why you want to move back to the UK?

By applying for jobs. Use www.seek.co.nz Majority of employers will offer work visas as part of the job package. Employers also regularly go to the UK to do recruitment drives. You will need UK experience and certification if needed. It's very rare (have met only 1 person) that was recruited directly from Nigeria and even that person had qualifications from the US (degree and masters).

Certain jobs are in higher demand - Engineering, IT, Health. This website also goes into specific details. https://www.newzealandshores.com/working-in-new-zealand/

You can also download the shortage list and target employers in those fields. If the job is on the shortage list, it automatically qualifies for the work to residence visa. You can also apply for visit visas (very easy to get) and come speak to employers face to face. The shortage list is here -https://skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/

UK is our home base. It's a lovely place to live if one is not in a constant hustle to survive and be comfortable. We're lucky to be in that position now.

We also want to provide our children with the opportunity to grow with and spend time extended family members. My parents and in laws are in their 70s and haven't really spent time with the children. Plus secondary education in NZ is shite (good enough). It's poor by OECD standards and if we remain here, we have to go the private education route. That will be $22k per child. We'd rather spend 8 years in the UK for them to complete secondary school in good schools for free, spend time with family, they can get to really know their cousins, visit 9ja as often as we can and spend some time travelling Europe.

God will bless you x100000% times the number of words you typed in your reply

I have always loved Australia / NZ (I call AU my country grin) Was gutted when I didnt get admission there 2 years ago

Was hoping I would later seek PR or whatever there so I have always been on the look out for opportunities around that area while hoping the UK will adjust their years to ILR

Will look through all you have said ask questions if need be

Many thanks!

Just remember, almost all insurance companies would love to avoid paying insurance claims..........

If you tweak too much and need to make a claim....... All the documentations they NEVER asked for during your insurance quotation, would now become relevant to your claim and they could very easily invalidate your insurance.....

Rendering your insurance policy null and void, making you directly liable, for any cost incurred .......... grin

Lol, it reminds me somehow of what they used to do back home in terms of empty titles - like promoting someone to "Head of Finance, West Africa" when his job is fully based in Lagos and he is not stepping over Seme border for any corporate reason.

Although most organisations say you have to be in the UK for 5 years to get SC clearance, you can still get it without 5 year residency. I know of someone that came to the UK in September last year and got SC few months ago. The application process did not take up to a month. You will have to provide verifiable details of your last 5 year activities and police report though.

It was discussed that for quick return of BRP and provisional license,

1. Disregard or discard or shred the pre-addressed envelope sent with your form

2. Address your post to

FAO Lee Jones
Head of Vehicle input services
DVLA
Longview Rd
Swansea
SA6 7JL

3. Watch your BRP and PDL come back swiftly

Tried and trusted; still works

This still works like fire, applied for spouse and got a turn around time of 3 days. God bless the person wey originally post this link.

That makes sense because they work minimum of 32 hours weekly so a Student's 20 hours weekly won't suffice.
