4kelly4handsome:

1. Taxi Drivers:
With the increasing popularity of rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft, the traditional taxi driver who works for a taxi Company faces extinction.

Rideshare companies suffer from a host of problems that taxis don't. The companies actually complement each other by filling in gaps. It's more likely that each business will change the nature of the other, not wipe the other out. It's like saying planes or trains will eliminate buses. That's just not reality.

2. Bank Tellers:
When was the last time you walked into a physical bank and conducted a financial
service with a bank teller? Automation
and artificial intelligence is quickly replacing this long-standing job.

No technology is smart or secure enough to totally replace this kind of human involvement. Every bank fraud criminal born, regulation created, and etc makes X amount of tellers necessary.

3. Cashiers:
There may always be a need for one or two cashiers in a store for price check issues and other common purchasing problems, but the standard cashier jobis in danger. Self-checkout machines and the move towards digital currency are quickly automating the jobs of cashiers.

Some people may prefer a cashier because they're:

-elderly and want physical help
-a parent with a bunch of kids at the store
-multitasking
-tired/típsy/lazy
-chatty and like to socialize with the cashier and others as they shop
-people who reject technology
-concerned about messing something up or missing out on deals

Machines also break, need maintenance, or can be too expensive for some. In some parts of the world, people mostly shop in stalls, and those folks definitely aren't using self-checkout.

Thus, cashiers aren't disappearing any time soon.

4. Telemarketer:
While most of us cheer the idea of
telemarketers going away, this doesnt mean we will no longer receive unsolicited phone calls. Currently, most of the telemarketing calls are conducted by automation and Switched over to a person

Ultimately, we're talking about sales. You can't automate the very human and psychological process of sales, only improve it and expand it with technology. Unless people stop talking on the phone, telemarketing will survive.

5. Dispatchers: (except emergency services) Dispatchers for typical service industry jobs such as plumbers, taxi drivers, and other services are quickly being replaced by automation.

No machine or tech alone is smart enough to do this. It introduces too many serious problems.

6. Watch repairers: there are two significant concerns with the watch repair jobs that are still in existence. First, many people are switching over to smartwatches that integrate with their phones. Any issues with smartwatches are usually too complex for a traditional watch repairer, so these watches must go back to the manufacture. Second, as automation replaces many in the manufacturing industry, traditional watches tend to get cheaper while watch repair costs are increasing

Some people pay tens of thousands of dollars for mechanical watches. Your favorite rapper is constantly flashing a mechanical watch, and millions of people want one (even a fake) just like it. It even seems to be trending because quite a few new makers have appeared. So jobs may shrink substantially, but not disappear.

7. Printing press operators:
Printed media is a quickly dying medium.
While magazines and newspapers are still printed in small quantities, the next five years will show a massive push to strictly digital content. The printing press operators will still be needed for some required publications, but their overall numbers will be all but obsolete.

Digital publications are awesome, but there are many uses for literature that make a physical copy way more practical, useful, and desirable than digital. People also like the experience of printed media, collecting it, sharing it, displaying it, and designing it. It will shrink, but not disappear.

8. Bus Drivers: Driverless vehicles are becoming much more common, and we are sure public transportation is soon to follow Traditional bus drivers will soon be replaced by driverless transportation to increase efficiency and lower government Costs.

The technology is nowhere near where it needs to be for this to happen.

9. Librarians: With the move towards digital media and libraries turning to self serve kiosks, the traditional librarian role is quickly disappearing. With the move towards digital media and libraries turning to self serve kiosks, the traditional librarian role is quickly disappearing

This is totally wrong. Someone with this training and knowledge is necessary to manage all that material and those resources. The change in media format makes no difference. In fact, they're even more necessary considering the exponential increase in media.

Some of the jobs that may be obsolete in the western world in few years time, may not go into extinction in Africa.

If the first industrial revolution that brought about mechanisation of agriculture didn't take a foothold in Africa, how much more the fifth industrial revolution.

Our developmental pace is in reverse direction in Africa.

You could say the same about South America, and all of Asia.

Driverless cars are still decades from being a possibility. As for watch repairs, last time I checked, people are still buying Pateks, Audemars and Rolexs. To bring it into perspective, a relatively cheap automatic Seiko could cost as much as $100 for a service job.

The whole computers/automation is going to take over all the jobs is sometimes overblown.

True, automation is a good thing and it will be great if most boring tasks could be automated but a better part of these jobs you mentioned will still remain for a long time. The technology to automate them hasn't matured or just doesn't exist.

Whats the percentage of driveless cars in the road after years ??

Hacking and efficient AI is a major concern and most leaders are not ready to allow them on the road yet .

Make your research , the concept would take ages to come on fully ..thats a fact

Probably copied the post from a developed country website, without critically evaluating the content, they regurgitate the post here.

It's just crazy. It's just like assuming that since they are a few available bottled palm wine in selected big stores local palm wine tapers and palmy joints will go out of business grin

Do you think wall papers are applicable in all places? What about workshops, factories and production centers? Painting is not going down.

Because it's an electric car doesn't mean it can't be fixed.

chariisGRACE:
Painting: With the introduction of wallpapers and wall tiles, the painting profession has been wearing a sad face. (minimally tho)

Automobile mechanic: It nay take time in this part of the world, but in years to come, it will fade. (Electric cars)

Electrical Engineering will surely boom in the future.

Didn't we say digital cameras and photographers will be gone for good and that many will lose their job as soon as smartphones arrived?

Tsssk! Alas, the photography industry bloomed and boomed instead.

I doubt that these jobs will be gone soon. I see your point when you talk about such jobs as taxi- ot bus drivers. However, it is still the matter of decades or hundred of years to substitute humans with machines all over the globe. There are still countries where people don't know what smartphones are. They have no idea what machine learning or AI are. So, taxi drivers can be sure that they will have jobs in at least 20 years.
