God and Allah: Are they the same? by IAH(f): 8:23pm On Jul 01, 2005 |
I'm sure everyone must have asked this question before and I'm not willing to start a religious conflict on here but a healthy debate. Allah - I mean the unseen being Muslims worship God - I mean the unseen being Christians worship Are they the same? @Admin, if you feel this might lead to any quarrel, please delete it. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Missworld(f): 11:48am On Jul 02, 2005 |
I think and believe that God and Allah are the same. Just like we have many different languages that we can't understand so do muslims have their own God, Allah, and because we can't understand it doesn't mean that Allah is different. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by medube(m): 10:43pm On Jul 02, 2005 |
I believe Allah is simply the Arabic word (language most commonly used by Moslems) for God. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by olaide07(f): 5:50pm On Jul 03, 2005 |
Allah is the arabic name for God just like Chineke in igbo.It isn't worth conflict |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Jesimiel(m): 3:13pm On Jul 08, 2005 |
not really Allah and God are not the same, God has a son, Jesus Christ, and Allah does not amongst the other differences. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by delarontus(f): 4:27pm On Jul 08, 2005 |
Jesimiel, i beg to differ. Allah is the arabic and hausa word for God. It has nothing to do with having a son or not. Christians in the north refer to God as Allah in their language and that does not change the meaning for them. Likewise Muslims refer to Allah as God when translating arabic into english language. Whether God has a son or not is a different issue entirely. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Jesimiel(m): 4:35pm On Jul 08, 2005 |
Delarontus, you can differ all you want but it is true and you are so, so, so very wrong. Only that this would not be the right forum, I would defined the reference, 'Allah' to you. Remember the quran forbids that God be called by name thus the reference 'Allah' you would agree must have a meaning. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by kazey(m): 4:42pm On Jul 08, 2005 |
Lolz, the topic is getting a bit hum. Allah is the name for God, yes. its derived from the arabic words al- the, + ’ilāh God. so translating directly it would mean "The God". God = Allah , yes. Whatever comes thereafter based on personal interpretations, is not what the thread is all about. The topic was God and Allah: Are they the same? And futhermore I sourced the following from a reliable source in the internet..... More importantly, it should also be noted that the Arabic word "Allah" contains a deep religious message due to its root meaning and origin. This is because it stems from the Arabic verb ta'Allaha (or alaha), which means "to be worshipped". Thus in Arabic, the word "Allah" means "The One who deserves all worship". God deserves to be worshiped. . And guys please do relax. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by delarontus(f): 4:44pm On Jul 08, 2005 |
If you have the time you can look up an english version of the Quran and you will find that Allah is sometimes referred to as God or Lord. You can also ask a Christian northerner what God is called in hausa. My answer is based on facts therefore the need for arguments is baseless. A bit of research might be worthwhile. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by kazey(m): 4:47pm On Jul 08, 2005 |
Well i speak hausa fluently, and yes you are right delarontus, and yes Hausas, be it muslims or christian called God Allah. Whatever we attach to the word "God", is upto us, based on our religious understandings. But yes Allah = God. |

Mathew Chapter 6 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 ¶ After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Depending on your faith of whom you believed and hallowed |

Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by kazey(m): 2:06pm On Jul 14, 2005 |
That is totally off topic, i think . What would you feel, if somebody else starts quoting, quotations of the Quran which emphasises that Allah is not the same thing as God. What we are doing here is basic translations, not offering Bible and Quaranic lessons. Please lets keep to the topic. |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Hndholder(m): 2:14pm On Jul 14, 2005 |
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. No name was mentioned in that prayer Mind you. And Why, were there gods in earth and heaven other than God, they (heaven and earth) would surely go to ruin." (21:22) The Oneness of God The Quran reminds us of the falsity of all alleged gods. To the worshippers of man-made objects, it asks: "Do you worship what you have carved yourself?" (37:95) "Or have you taken unto you others beside Him to be your protectors, even such as have no power either for good or for harm to themselves?" (13:16) To the worshippers of heavenly bodies it cites the story of Abraham |

"Truly, your god is truly One!" [Qur'an 37:4] This is chapter 112 which reads: "In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate. Say (O Muhammad) He is God the One God, the Everlasting Refuge, who has not begotten, nor has been begotten, and equal to Him is not anyone." "God is the Creator of everything. He is the guardian over everything. Unto Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth." (39:62, 63) "No creature is there crawling on the earth, but its provision rests on God. He knows its lodging place and it repository." (11:6) |

Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Jesimiel(m): 4:01pm On Jul 15, 2005 |
Some claim that "God is one and the same, only people call him by different names". Such a statement aims to reconcile all the religions of the world. It sounds safe and friendly; making nearly all religions acceptable so that people are lulled into a false sense of security. http://debate.domini.org/newton/allah.html |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by kazey(m): 4:02pm On Jul 15, 2005 |
In the Hausa Language, there a lot of borrowed words from Arabic, so is many languages out there. One of the words is the usage of Allah. Hausas call Allah God. Whether it be a Hausa Christian or Muslim. Lady are you saying my Arabic transalation of ALlah is wrong? Do you understand Arabic? What we are saying here is just the basic meaning, not the religious interpretation of the meaning. Just basic language translation. |

Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Jesimiel(m): 4:20pm On Jul 15, 2005 |
it's just like the case of Nigerians calling 4x4 SUVs "Jeep" . Why can't someone just go to google and search for "Jeep" and see what drops down. ....offcos its' going to be Cherokee( a Brand name). cos "Jeep" is the name given to all their SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles). SUV is the universal class name and not "Jeep" In the SUV class; Jeep is to Cherokee just as Pathfinder/Xterra/Terrano is to Nissan G/M wagons/Class is to Mercedes as Foreruuner/Cruiser is to Toyota They all have there respective names, designs and performances, and simply not just one and the same Imagine someone saying Toyota "504" , cos the person erroniously believes that every Salon (Sedan) are 504s, just as every SUV is a Jeep. Same with saying Bible God and Qu'ran Allah are the same. It is the context of significance that represents the definition not the assumption. Pls go thru the links below: http://debate.domini.org/newton/allah.html http://answering-islam.org.uk/God/same.html |
Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by kazey(m): 4:22pm On Jul 15, 2005 |
Besides your refrence has a lot of blunders in relation to "Hudud"( the punishment for crimes.) in the Shariah concept. I wouldnt go futher in that relation since this is not what the topic is about, but your refrence thus have a lot of blunders in his interpretations. Besides not forgetting that all we are doing here is translation not Religious studies. |

Re: God and Allah: Are they the same? by Jesimiel(m): 4:58pm On Jul 15, 2005 |
Besides not forgetting that all we are doing here is translation not Religious studies. .....cos there is no way we would discuss the topic in details without getting Religious about it, that was why I warned earlier that we should not get into details or else we would bore everybody. Yes, Seun pls remove the topic |
