Now the farm land is cleared and the debris packed and burned (Non till corn farm). Here in Edo state, the rains start dragging their feet by February ending then start officially by March. should I.

a) Leave the first wave of weeds to germinate in late March and use glyphosphate (between 150ml to 15 and 18L of water depending in the weeds I have)

b) use pre-emergence Herbicides before planting( I have 0 experience with these kinds of Herbicides and in March temperatures could rise real high vaporizing anything on the ground)

c) Plant the corn in early March then use selective post emergence Herbicides for the maize.

This year was my first independent farming project and I'd like to work more efficiently next year. Thank you all as you bless me with knowledge.

Are herbicide worth it?

What I do is, I wait 2 weeks after burning, then spray. I'm into cassava only so I plant 2 days before spraying but of recent, I notice barely a month after pumping, I would have to pump again and the high cost of herbicede isnt worth it if you factor effect of chemicals on crops.

a cup of chemical is 4k. you'll need 2 fan acre.
water is 1500 per drum
spraying is k per can.
do the maths and save yourself stories that touch.

my God!! You're gettin it a lot worse than me. I plan to spray myself and the frustrating part is that you can hardly get 100L of spray from one can.

You can get 10 spray per can when you measure at 100mil per knapsack. it works but very slow but effective when the weeds are small, recommended where there's cassava but chemicals these days eh but

1. what did you plant?
2. are there elephant or guinea grass on it?

i have corn well spaced abt 1M*1M and there are no elephat or guinea grass. Just broad leafs that at knee height, glphosphate of 150ml to 15L dealt real and complete damage to. They droped mature seeds which are now at ankle level. Are you sayin that I can do 100ml to 15L?

At ankle height, 100ml would work just fine. If its only corn u planted u can use selective

I haven't used any. I used Jubaili equivalent of Arrow, Omo e make my cassava slow so since then I've stopped using selective and are emergent. If you are patient enough u can use manual weeding since it's 2 months old.
