Paul was a Christ-sent apostle. Jesus Christ promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide the apostles into all the truth. The Holy Spirit guided Paul, as well as other apostles, as he wrote his letters to churches and individuals. His thought was guided by the Holy Spirit as he penned those words.

The sons of God refer to those obedient sons of God who joined themselves with the daughters of men (those who were not of faith (disobedient)) and thus allowed themselves to be led into moral degradation. So the sons of God and daughters of men are human beings.

They are just words used to describe two categories of people in their relationship with God during that dispensation. The "sons of God" are the those of faith who are obedient to God while the "daughters of men" are those who are disobedient to God and followed their own ways.
