Mine

He was a pagan

Never became a Christian despite having a Methodist church very near to his house

He prays to God too or maybe it's not God but he definitely prays

I saw him pray but not in Jesus name

One night he asked me if I prayed too, he said it's good to pray

He also told me it's good to keep a pet, when I asked him why

He said your pet are literally like your bodyguards

Again I said why

Then he said if anyone wants to kill you spiritually or physically, if they can't get you, they will kill your pet
That's how you know you are wanted dead not alive.
And you may even know by who

So pets can help you stay alive....

I saw it happen many years later
Some youths were protesting, they later went to the town development chairman's house to "deal" with him, he has absconded before they arrived, they proceeded to kill his pet monkey, the man actually cried, he resigned his post, travelled out and never returned to that town.

My Grandfather was a very strict and cunny man. He had three wives and outlived all of them even the most troublesome and youngest who once told him to his old face to share his stuff

He was a local chief among his tribe.

RIP Babalosi

too bad my grandfather from dad side passed away when I was infant, I don't even know how he looked like

grandpa from mom side passed in 2012 back then we were still in the north.
[he loved us ] never allowed mom to beat us [not even to scream on us ] though we only interacted whenever we came [home ]for December.
*so sad * not anymore.

It might seem strange, but I also agree that someone who can kill a pet (like a dog barking, for example) can kill a human.

Exactly

To kill is the intention

One could easily argue that the man already knew the youths had deadly intentions hence the reason why he absconded, this before they arrived to eventually take out there anger and frustration on the poor monkey he left behind. So? undecided

You could even go further to claim that the man is responsible for the death of his own pet. If he had any love for it, he would not have abandoned it in harms way like he did. undecided

Now, I'm reminded of what happened one time one I was little; in the early hours before dawn, we were woken up by noises and cries from a neighbour, she was calling out her husband's name, and at the same time, we could also hear the guard dog barking loudly and continuously which was unusual, turns out, the man was dying in his sleep.
He died before dawn.

Really? In a country where people believe that humans can, at will, transform themselves into animals, you no know reason why anyone go take kill innocent pet? undecided

And please, you act like it is a special breed that can kill in Nigeria where the average person on the street has blood on his/her hands from either lynching pickpockets or thieves or witches. undecided

Some people will actually kill a human before they kill a pet.

There's always benefit of doubt

This is a dispute among the same community men, even families

He knew they were up to some misdeamnour and mischief so he took the advise to escape in a hurry but he couldn't ever imagine that his kinsmen will want to kill him

Can you imagine?

Why weren't you close to your grandmother?
Old people are usually crazy about their grandkids.

You see? You could've taken that opportunity to learn your dialect in its pure organic form.

When we were little, my parents would take us home (to our village) for the holidays.
Our grandparents, both paternal and maternal could hardly understand English, so speaking it was totally out of the question.
We (grandchildren) had to make effort to communicate with them in our dialect the little way we can (it was hard and funny at first), and they were patient enough to flow at our pace and it paid off (it helped that we already could understand our language/dialect).
My grandfather, he hardly talked, but when he did, he was a slow talker. A man of few words.
To have a conversation with him, you'd have to be patient because he doesn't rush his words. cheesy
I could go on and on.
Such wonderful memories.
