That bank is to blame. To reset a password on bank account so much personal data should be requested like debit card number, account number, date of birth. Don't tell me a simple phone number and an otp via sms is enough to reset. By the way to review a forgotten username personal data is needed. Someone in the bank is helping them.

You don’t need to worry much just pray they haven’t withdrawn the money from the acct they transferred it to . If they have that acct will be placed on -minus the operator must likely a pos person would sadly have to pay that amount stolen or provide the person God help them if they didn’t use pos .

Put a sim lock on your phones especially the one that receives alert. This is getting too rampant. If asked for pin, use the default pin that comes with every sim pack. For MTN it's 00000, for AIRTEL it is 1111, for 9mobile it is 0000, for GLO it is 0000. The thief will try to gain access to the sim without success and PUK number will be required, if the PUK is attempted up to 10 times, the sim is automatically blocked. Phone lock is not enough anymore
how i do enable it? iPhone too

all they did was remove the sim from the phone and insert into another phone. Had it been the sim had pin, they wouldn't have been able to access the sim.

Now I get it, thanks a lot.

They would still need access to your phone to use USSD, and even USSD transactions require passwords.

No they don't need to access the phone to use USSD... All they need is Sim and slot it in any cheap phone... Voila

The secret is don't ever use internet banking on your main account.... Banks aren't proactive

Good evening all I’m gonna make this very brief plz I need help

Someone stole my phone this morning and within 3hrs i opened my bank app only to realize they’ve taken over 180k from my account with the bank description of “intrabank charges”

I called UBA immediately and still went to their branch they got my account frozen with the account where the money was transferred to because it’s also a UBA account

I’ve written the letter they asked me to write and they said they’ll get back to me within 5 working days

Now since there’s a valid recipient account where the money was transferred to is there no way I can catch the culprit with help of the police? My iPhone 11promax of barely 6months gone with money

I had to call MTN too to block my SIM

Please is it possible to get the person tracked and arrested

Modes please move to front page Lemme know my next action thanks

NB: both my account and fraudsters account where he sent the money to has been frozen by UBA because we use same bank
u can get the picture of the culprits...all atm have cameras then police can pik it up from there

Resetting your ussd password still requires some degree of authentication. Are you very sure that the thief didn't have access to your password?

Exactly, I have been following this topic keenly just to understand how this could be done. His bank App is not even on the stolen phone, only the ussd. According to him, they used ussd for the transfer. The culprit could know the OP's USSD transaction pin. The bank I use, for you to change your current Tpin, you must input the current one before inputting the tpin you are changing to and then confirming it. I am not aware that they change pin through SMS.

Poster is not telling the whole story... Y phone doesn't have app and I only use ussd for transfers. My password is not saved anywhere else except in my head. And to the best of my knowledge password cannot be reset without knowledge of the previous one. How did they steal his money then

The only thin ussd do on my phone without password requirement is when am buying airtime for my line
Moreover one only needs to complete a minimum of primary six to live like you do.

Bro i feel your pain, and I can relate well with your story cos I was once a victim. It's hurt when this fraudster steal your phone, the first thing they will do is to remove your SIM card, unlike before they will throw your SIM away but not this time... Your SIM card will be work on, your sim card will be use to reset your mobile bank app, ussd, and in some cases it will be use to obtain a loan, it can also be use to get vital info about you such as your BVN,NIN etc this info can be use to further carryout fraudulent activities on your behalf. To protect your funds and info's next time set a password (Pin) for your SIMCARD. Sorry bro and I pray you retrieve your phone as well as your money.

Nnannapat:
Sim lock is simply the answer to all these, once your sim is PIN protected, and there is a PIN, password or fingerprint lock on the phone, there is nothing that can be done to access your sim, except you shared your sim PIN with a loved one.

When the criminals steals your phone and realised that it is locked, they will remove the sim, thereby activating sim lock automatically, they will now insert the sim on their operational phone, and the sim will request for PIN which they don't have. So their efforts to get the sim active can only block the sim, so in that case no access to the sim. Case closed
And another good thing about the sim lock is that, one can make it 8 digits combination making it harder for them to guess in just three attempts.

The same thing happened to my sister, through pos, she lost her atm and they cleaned her account, the problem is that the bank is not going to do anything about this. I don't bank in Nigeria because the money in bank accounts are not insured, if this issue happens in America, you will get your money back after a investigation because all money is insured up to 250.000 dollars.

Nice one, please modify and add "before they try it, they should have their PUK at hand"
First Sim lock attempts will always lock your sim, you open it with PUK.

Oga, so when your phone is lost or stolen, you don't know that the first thing to do is restrict access to your account and block your SIM?

The day my phone was stolen I went straight to the all my banks. I cancelled all transactions linked to my sim.

When I got to first bank the banker I met was telling me not to bother much that they can't temper my account via sim because he doesn't want to work, I told him with a straight face to block everything which he did immediately.
