Okay guys so I made a post yesterday about my stolen phone and money on my account

https://www.nairaland.com/6858104/someone-stole-phone-withdrew-over

I just got off the phone with a UBA customer care agent demanding to know how my money was stolen with just my SIM card, and where the money was transferred to. She said it was transferred to a personal account not an account that runs POS (she would probably know since it’s same UBA), she even gave me the guys full name but didn’t disclose anything more

NB: the stolen phone don’t have my bank app on it

The customer care agent told me that 80k was withdrawn in the bank hall and 100k USSD, lol like they don’t know my signature how did they walk into the bank hall and a bank staff looked my face on the system and saw it was different from whomever is coming to take the money

NB: (the debit descriptions for the 80k was “INTRABANK CHARGES, while the 100k description was ‘USSD”

NB: the guy that stole my phone doesn’t live in the estate and that was my first time of seeing him he’s just a 21yr old hustler who came to do one menial job in the estate and i couldn’t ask him which area he came to work before i went inside the compound to get something and forgot my phone. Immediately I remembered that my phone was outside I came out I didn’t see him again and only me and him just dey there

Anyways whatever happens I’ll update you guys so we all can learn from this

Next time, be more careful with your phone to avoid stories like this.

Secondly report this case via mail to cpd@cbn.gov.ng and watch how serious the bank takes it up.

Wow..

There's something criminally sinister going on in all Nigerian banks. But from my experience so far and other people's testimonies, UBA is fast taking the cake as a den for thieves.

Go set up an account with UBA today and before you get home or your office, a scammer will be on the phone with you requesting to have the numbers on your card pan plus Security and pin to help you activate your account.

I hope the management will look into this and get to the root of this insider rogues who are compromising customers data.

A friend told me this same story yesterday, I related it here and one Nairaland member came to disprove me because he thinks he is a tracker.

Aside this UBA type of scam is another one where if they steal your phone and assuming your balance is N100, they will apply for loan on your account, throw it into debit balance of say N400k loan from loan sharks.

Why it's not good to argue with people who lack exposure.

One guy opened an account today, he went home, while he was taking his bath, someone called his number asking for his new account details, and his younger ignorant brother tore the PIN SLIP attached to his new ATM card and called out the 4 digit number.

Tell me it's not a banker who did that scam.

His opening balance of N4,000 was withdrawn thesame day.

I read the previous thread and I will like to re-emphasize on the activation of sim lock as earlier suggested.

Additionally, save and scratch off the 3 security number (Security) number at the back of your ATM cards should in case you misplace it.

I had a strange experience yesterday when I tried purchasing smth from aliexpress with my card, I entered card details with a wrong Security code (mix up) and guess what? The transaction was successful and I was debited (This same bank). It was when I tried purchasing another item and it kept requesting I re-enter my Security as it was not correct I then realized the first one was wrong.

Once bitten twice shy

This is not the time to blame the bank, just get your statement of account, go to a police station report the case, the police will help you get a court order and the suspect account will be place on no debit alert. Any bank he visit to make any transaction he will be arrested. All this should cost 8 thousand

Is it that these banks are not aware that fraudstars are amongst their staff. They make it so easy for this criminals to operate. A lot of yahoo boys, their friends and girlfriends have been recruited into several banks and are working together to wipe out customer's accounts and these banks are not doing anything about it

Police never enter the matter? Why is OP enjoying the prolonged nature of this situation?

Atleast you have a lead

It's time to involve the police

The person he came to the estate to work for can help trace him too

He clicked on a sportybet link on Facebook

And he registered on it

He went to input his ATM pins and numbers there

He had 780k in that account

He credited it with 30k

Before he got home, he was seeing debits of 2k twice

Before he knew it

It went to 30k debits

Before he could run to the ATM machine to transfer the remaining money

510 k has gone

He reported to sporty bet and Access bank

He was able to recover 5k from the guys bet account

The guys name was given to him by the bank

But they told him to go bring police report before they could release more details of the guy

Na so the matter take get k leg

Story end

Same thing happened to me and I was wondering how those guys got hold of my information so fast. It was the day after I opened the account, and guess what? There was only N2500 in the account.

I don't think it's only Nigerian banks experiencing these issues. Criminals are in every organization all over the globe exploiting the weaknesses of the organization's systems.

The banks usually hide under "customer privacy" rules.
If no crime has been reported and documented officially, they pretend as if everything is okay.
