To those sending money home through Moneygram or Western Union. Just to let you know that Nigerian Banks are thieves.

I send $2067.00 to Naija yesterday through Moneygram. I asked them to pay in dollars so that the money can be collected and changed at the black market to avoid moneygram giving me naira at official exchange rate.

When my family got to the bank they said they can only pay in $100 demonimations. So they had to pay $67 in Naira at the official exchange rate, I was also told there are a lot of people queuing there having the same problems. When would we stop thieving in that country.

i no tink say the bank dey take style thief people money o. If you carry $100 bill go change, Mallam fit buy am from you for $158, but if na 5 twenty dollar bills you carry go, na only N150 dem go take buy am. Small bills just no dey for de forex market. banks no even get the small denominations in stock. next time just send $100 multiples. na naija factor you dey see so.
Re: How Much Did You Exchange The Dollar For Today? by feasy1(m): 7:23pm On Jun 26, 2009
Sent some dollars down to naija. Called my Malam contacts in lagos and Ibadan, the best rate was in Lagos to buy at 158 but the dollar was to be cashed in Ibadan after so much consultation from one Malam to another had to settle to sell the dollar at N154 in Ibadan, guess the black market rate will be parallel to the official rate soon.
