Since the year 2002 the Boko Haram terrorists have been operating unlawlfully in the North-Eastern Nigeria. However, albeit they have always been violent since they surfaced, their atrocities against their fellow humans have known no bounds since the death of their leader, Mohammed Yusuf in 2009.

With the fiendish Abubakar Shekau replacing Yusuf in 2009, the Boko Haram terrorist group degenerated to the use of bombs, infants and women to orchestrate attacks on both the civilians and security forces. And every attempt to nip their activities in the bud has been abortive.

However, upon the death of Shekau in an attack that was launched by the Boko Haram's breakaway faction, ISWAP, in June, some of his loyalists who survived the hostility were said to have reluctantly joined forces with their conquerors. Meanwhile, coupled with the sustained incursions by the federal troops and some other unfavourable conditions in which they found themselves since the death of Shekau, teeming numbers of them started surrendering to the government forces. And as it presently stands, about twenty thousand of them, including their wives and children, have allegedly done so.

As a reminder the massive surrender of thousands of Boko Haram terrorists in recent months is not the first of its kind. Hundreds of the outlaws had done so even during the reign of the dreaded Shekau. And the federal government (FG) always reformed them before releasing them back to the society.

But unfortunately the supposedly repentant Boko Haram terrorists have allegedly attempted to break loose from camp a number of times with the excuse that they were being kept waiting for too long!. And lately they had reportedly expressed the desire to return to Sambisa forest to rejoin their collagues who have refused to lay down their weapons all along.

In view of the above, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa, in a recent statement, according to Sahara Reporters, has also confirmed that some of the about twenty thousand terrorists who claimed to have repented are not sincere.

As mentioned above, there have been outcries across the country regarding the genuineness of the repentance of the wanton terrorists. Therefore, for Major General Musa to public confirm that some of them are indeed not sincere, it means that Nigerians were not wrong to express fears for them despite their claim that they have turned a new leaf.
