When leaders of APC are counted from North to East to West, Buhari is APC leader in the north, Tinubu is APC leader in the West and guess who the APC leader in the East is, Ogbonnaya Onu. A fine gentleman.

I’ve listened to different interviews of APC insiders especially those who don’t seem to like Tinubu, and they never fail to mention the fact that Tinubu is not the only leader of the party; all of these people have mentioned Ogbonnaya Onu. I think even Amaechi did at one time.

But if you think only Buhari men recognize him, then you are wrong. I recently stumbled on a picture taken at the book launch of Pa Bisi Akande in Lagos, which was what informed this post, and Ogbonnaya Onu was posing with Buhari, Tinubu, Sanwolu(because he is host governor) and Akande for a photograph.

It’s just a picture but it spoke volume. It shows that these people know who is who in the scheme of things of the APC. They know who played what role and who is at what position?

Since 2015, we have never heard that Ogbonnaya Onu said this or said that yet he is one of the most influential people in APC and no one disputes that. Even some Nairaland guys here who are privy to the workings of APC can confirm that.

Even in his native Ebonyi state, despite Umahi’s defection to APC, I can confirm to authoritatively that Ogbonnaya Onu has the final say on what happens in Ebonyi APC and Umahi dares not go against it. If anything, Mai Mala Buni, the current caretaker chairman of APC is his longtime ally from ANPP and you know where that places him.

So my question is, why is this man so powerful and influential yet so quiet? No media warriors, just him and his business.

I won’t be surprised if he pulls a shocker in 2023.

Buhari and most northern powerbrokers know that Onu is not an opportunist.

He didn’t defect into APC because of power, no, he has always been in opposition and has always been Buhari’s ally.

That’s unlike Tinubu and his fellow Southwestern opportunists who had always demonized Buhari until they saw him as their shortest route to power. And that’s suspicious.

If anything, I can tell you that Onu has more than friends than he has Igbo friends or even Southern friends.
