The FG used more than 6years living in denial instead of taking loans to repair the moribund refineries or/and build new ones as a compliment!
Now they want to subject Nigerians to more hardship with more than a 100% increase in the fuel price..
What is their backup plan to reduce the effect on Nigerians and the economy? bribing 40 million Nigerians with 5k monthly! Hilarious!

ON refineries, PH and Warri are being repaired, plus we have five private refineries coming up, Dangote included, that can refine PMS (BUA's refinery can refine everything but PMS).

ON subsidy, the writing has been on the wall for some time. Subsides are funded by crude oil revenue, whose price has not been favorable to us for several years now, and even long before 1993. Alternatives like tax revenue, and revenue from non-oil exports are not enough to pay for subsides, and finally, subsides means that no one until recently was going to invest in refinery and sell fuel at a loss, with the subsidy unable to cover the resultante loss.

I got the covid info during the weekend, but decided to wait till Monday before trying it because one of the steps involves chatting with a fairmoney staff.

I about to start the process now. I will give you feedback when I am done.

I just read the process now and i think this is not real at all ( most likely to be scam) it's too good to be true so it's probably is

Anyways I'll be looking forward to know how it goes. If you received yours today

Are being repaired or have been repaired?
I guess its the former I'm referring to which buttresses my earlier point that the FG was asleep for the better part of their administration!
If they had done the repairs or built the new refineries earlier esp the first 2 years, we wont be in this situation where the FG uses the citizens as a scapegoat to get over their obvious incompetence!

So in other words, the FG will still call on her already economically burdened and tax inflicted citizens to still swallow more hardship simply because they failed to get their priorities right abinitio?
Any slight or humongous increment in fuel price will definitely inflate already high cost of goods and services! Everyone will be gravely affected including the wealthy!
Subsidy will definitely go but it must be gradual......refineries must start working in order to convince the citizens that something significant is being done by the FG to ameliorate their current plight!
Nobody loves to have a huge hole in their pocket, but why not fix that hole instead of putting more burden and pressure on it!

He who technically understand the situation knows that the tribe controlling the government who cannot do without dancing to the tune of America, IMF , world bank are the one bringing forward that old man.
So age is not the problem but the fact that those self acclaimed academic sophisticated tribe who doesn't understand western neo-colonialism over African countries is the problem. If that tribe comes on board either through their younger one who is in charge of this present useless economy, they will finish everyone with taxes. Infact they will tax the free oxygen in the atmosphere.

He will not see any thug this time because the thugs are the ones that will spearhead this gigantic protests as well.

There will be massive turnout too from the north this time. So Buhari as his tiny vice who is charge of this useless economy will run away. This is neither APC nor PDP issue.

On the other hand we cannot sell fuel at a loss and pay an increasing amount in subsides to cover the loss ,which forces us into more and more debt.

Let's be realistic. All the arguments you are using now we're used in 2012 and before. And we lost a lot of golden opportunities to save money , attract more money and jobs.

Unless you have an alternative.

Indeed Nigerians are suffering! But we should be realistic about the financial state of the country. Hence for Nigeria to be functional now, there need to be complete removal of fuel subsidy so that the money could be channelled into other sectors. However, with the type of leaders we have, we will need God's intervention for things to be better because of the level of corruption and wickedness in high places.
....the federal government should make the refinery to work, then they can remove the fuel subsidy... that is the right thing to do
Re: NLC Mobilises For Protests Against Fuel Price Hike On Jan. 27th, Feb. 1st by ufotunang: 1:36pm On Jan 10, 2022
That is good....we should all protest against removal of fuel subsidy....let the government repair the refinery and make the refinery to work then they can now remove the fuel subsidy... what Buhari knows is to increase the prices of everything in this country and to cause hardship, hunger to the people....this is not what you promised Nigerians when you were campaigning.... fulfill your campaign promises

Ideally, these protests should be the mother of all Protests.

Unreasonable hike in price of petrol via total deregulation at this point in time will collapse our economy. The pains and agony will be unbearable for the masses.

The current NLC have failed Nigerians numerous times and can never lead a successful protest. Let small change enter their pockets, you won't hear anything again.
NLC must do the needful this time around if they don't want Amadioha or Sango to visit them.

I have tried it and my conclusion is that it a scam. The entire thing is to lead you to log in to a cloned fairmoney website with your fairmoney pin. I stop when I was required to do this.

Their goal is to use your fairmoney account to get loan that they will withdraw to their account, while your card will be billed.

People are complaining online that they are receiving calls and text from fairmoney that someone used their account to request for loan.

I will create a thread later on Nairaland to warn others about that website.

You still dont get it!
We are done with the economic effect of another mindless and insensitive increment!
If the economic hardship in the country is not affecting you, then congrats on being a billionaire!
We cannot keep paying for the incompetence and sluggishness of the FG...we have been doing that for more than 26 years!
If they want to stop subsidy, they should do so after the refineries start working and dispensing not before.....and the solution is not to bribe 30% of the citizens with a monthly peanut of 5k whose purchasing power will evaporate once the subsidy is removed!

backbencher:

Let's be realistic. All the arguments you are using now we're used in 2012 and before. And we lost a lot of golden opportunities to save money , attract more money and jobs.
The reality which you fail to see due to an obviously partisan inclination of this horrendous administration is that if we don't fix the refineries and go ahead to take off the subsidy, the money and jobs you keep talking about will be irrelevant when inflation hits the roof!
We are talking about how to reduce the sufferings of an already burdened citizens by doing what should have been done a long time ago and U are busy talking about creating phantom jobs and monies they haven't made since they came onboard!

backbencher:

Unless you have an alternative.
The alternative is simply to fix the refineries and hope the new ones will be ready anytime from now...then ensure they start dispensing products before subsidy is removed!
Mind you subsidy removal must be a gradual process....a total removal of fuel subsidy will bring the economy down to its knees and spell doom for the country including the purchasing power of the currency!

My view is that FG should wait until Dangote, PHC and Warri refineries come on stream. From what I've seen, at crude price of btw $65 - $80 per barrel, exchange rate of N410/$, a litre of petrol should be around N220 - N250. That is going to be profitable for the refineries, create more jobs, drastically reduce dollars required for imports and a lot more benefits. Labour will not have any more excuses and it is a middle ground for all involved. I foresee this happening by early to mid 2023. In the meantime, FG can put in place some measures to cushion the effect by completing intercity rail projects, helping states like Lagos to complete the blue and red rail lines, driving down inflation to like 12% this year by focusing on making food cheaper etc. All these will pave the way for a less painful increase by next year. The downside is that FG will keep borrowing in the meantime to finance budget deficits. There are no easy solutions.

In a democracy, the people must mobilize to protect their interests. Politicians are fighting for their interest, the people must come together and protect their sacred interest, which is wellbeing of the people, in our country. Where is the welfare?
Where is the benefit of the citizenry?

NLC are pen robbers organised criminal organisation using the labour movement as a yard stick to actualised their dreams of money bags. Let fed remove the subsidy now, we will survive the increament. Why not fight for states to build their own refinery !, states to generate their own power!!, states to have their own police! States to control their resources and pay tax to fed! Why not fight for RESTRUCTURING. NLC ENEMIES OF PROGRESS. Father, frustrate their efforts.
