I was once addicted to radio, though it was only one radio station that I listened to back then. It was the BBC world service. I had a shortwave radio receiver back then when I had just finished writing my WAEC.

I would listen from morning till night as I had nothing else to do. I fell in love with all their programs and was abreast of all international news and happenings. It was then that I also fell in love with the 'Queen's English' used extensively in their broadcast.

How time flies! Nowadays I only listen to a few interesting programs on some local radio stations. I do not subscribe to the idea that listening to the radio should be associated with old people. Cos it caters to the needs of people of different age groups. There are programs for everyone and moreover it keeps one up to date with current affairs and news.

It's true though that it is no longer in vogue with the advent of social media and cable TV and all what not, just like writing letters is becoming obsolete with the advent of email. It doesn't stop the proliferation of radio stations in Nigeria though, as my state Anambra has close to 15 radio stations, up from 3 it had some 10 years ago similar to what's happening in other states. Obviously people patronize them, hence the proliferation. I do not see radio dying soon, though it is an endangered species.

Good afternoon and Happy Sunday Nairalanders.

Ladies please oo, apart from me, who else Love listening to radio? Seriously my friends and family do tell me I have an old woman traits just because I love listening to radio and I'm still in my 20s undecided. I listen to radio on my phone with my earpiece, and I also have a rechargeable radio set.

My favorite radio stations are Raypower and wazobia fm. I know most of their radio presenters names, I do call, participate and contribute to any discussions. Some of the presenters recognizes my voice, once I'm lucky and they pick my call (their phone lines are always busy) the presenter would be like cynthia is that you? Next thing they will ring a bell to celebrate me (especially wazobia fm)...we'll all laugh and focus on the discussion.

Anytime I'm less busy I'm always on my radio, If we're going to church and my Dad is driving, I must turn on the radio in his car, he will jokingly say you this old woman reduce the volume of the radio, Infact he confirmed that I love listening to radio more than him. My brother don tire me sef, his room is just opposite my room, he's used to the sound of my radio.

If my friends were to describe me to a stranger, listening to radio would be part of their description. There are some news I would first listen to on radio before I come across it here on nairaland, I will just be smiling. I commend nairaland, they're also trying when it comes to news.

Truth be told. it gives me this joy and happiness that I'm contributing to matters arising and Nigerians are listening to me on air wherever they are.

Seriously, who else is like that? And when did listening to radio became an old person traits undecided??

Old woman or old 'women'? Reduce the radio thingy and read more books to improve your grammar.

Well, I'm building a career to become a Journalist.

But I love listening to radio, sometimes I do turn to wazobia fm on our Gotv channel 303, and I would be listening to it while I'm sweeping and cleaning the house.

I enjoyed listening to Wazobia too and all radio stations in ph. But overtime life will set in and you'll get busy.

But I never called them.

Hello dear, I'm not all that soft on ladies due to there numerous dramas that they being up but to be honest with you I like the way you express yourself freely in bit by bit and seek answers here on nairalandd when something is going through your thoughts when you need one.

I can see that you are passionate about listening to radio station, even going to the extent of contributing to the events going on there, its a good thing and I found out from your explanation that you derive joy from it.

Note that you are inspiring millions of people in your state and Nigeria as a whole from your honest contributions about societal issues on the radio stations. Keep that up and contribute more, perhaps you might change people for the best.

Since you love doing that why don't you find a way to make money from doing so, like becoming a radio presenter, or guest speaker or paid contributor or doing something very related to your hobby, trust me you will feel better, happier and more fulfilled while doing such career after all it's your passionate instinct or groom.

That's my little contribution to your questions.

As for your brother, be a good example to him, never give up on him, love him, pray for him, advice him in a friendly manner and most of all focus on yourself, hobby and career plans that's the most important thing to do now. Understand that after all these circumstances and when you are not around your home, it's who you are and your achievements will only matter.

what makes you feel she's not intelligent??

I mean, you can't just counter someone's point of view without sharing your concrete reasons.

I can relate to the radio thing.. I guess Nigerians generally have a way of making you feel odd for doing some things that interest you. Funnily enough, I've had people call me names like archaic or obsolete because I use Nairaland and similar forums like reddit or quora than Instagram, Snapchat and the rest, I don't even know how to use most of them. So, my dear lady, just do what interests and informs you.

It's a good thing you're listening to radio. It makes you more informative and if you do not know, you're educating yourself at the same time too. I listen to radio and watch documentary on Pay TV a lot than I watch movies or listening to music. It really improved me in all ramifications ranging from political, health, science, arts, educational discussions and lots more. Keep it up.

Am a radio person, what mostly finish my data is online radio.
Sometimes, I will just pick up a state or province in UK, USA, or far to the middle East as far it's an English speaking station, will just be listening to the online station either news or music. It's really cool.
