Hello Nairalanders,. A colleague of mine last week resigned his position at my work place. His decision was due to the pressure & many calls from his people in the north to represent his federal constituency at the National Assembly. So he told me. ( I Was not there).

He was a grade level 13 officer. Due to the level of acceptance of the political party he associates with, am a bit convinced that he'll win the primaries & the election too.
He called me yesterday to ask for financial support & i promise i'll send my contribution this new week.
Now am considering selling a plot of land that i got as a gift from my wife's parents. Am yet to discourse this with my wife cause am afraid she might be so dissappointed with the man she married.
though am optimistic this former colleague will sail through, but am wondering if this is a good decision to make. Am not looking for anything in return if he wins,. I just need opinions from nairalanders before i try to win my woman over on the issue.

It's your property of course sell and gift it out to whoseoever you want...no one will arrest or question you for that.. undecided
You can also put your house on lease so as to raise more money... undecided

A frnd in need is a frnd indeed. I can afford to lose that plot of land if he eventualy fails. Seeing him resign his appointment at that level shows the seriousness in it. Am nt the only one contributing though, but am wondering if this is too much of an extend to go for a frnd. He is a good guy & i can bet my balls on him.

After selling your land he might still lose. In politics, nothing is certain. The real music will start from your wife if your colleague loses. Well, for me, I will help if I have the money, not selling my property, especially if truly I'm not expecting anything in return. Even when he wins, it is still a gamble because human beings are unpredictable. Easy for me to help and forget about it. Once selling property is involved, it hardly can be forgotten.
Haven said all these, you still have to follow your heart so that you will be at peace with yourself in future.

For a level 13 Officer to resign, that means it has sure for him. Why can't you just come up with the money in another way? Isnt the value of the land appreciating?abi e no dey prime location?? I don't feel you need to sell of assets to fund a campaign. That sort of money is usually stashed in an account.

I've been having offers from developers to sell, i just didnt have any reason to cause am ok with my monthly take home. I just felt selling it off would raise a reasonable amount considering how expensive today's politics has become even when u've got good intention.

Nah don't sell yet. Its obvious you don't intend to erect on that piece. However, since developers are making inquiries, delay the sale until it appreciates further...Get a facility from your cooperative instead. Just try and raise a reasonable amount for him.

What a fuckïng morón grin

It's as if you want to spend the rest of your marital life being hen pecked like grains of rice because even if that man gives you a billion dollars tomorrow, your wife won't forgive you for selling that particular land. It's better you use your brain in this position, if that man is your colleague then he surely knows your true financial capability.

You contradict yourself sir! You said you don't expect anything from him, yet you want to sell a piece of land given to you by your parents in-law to help him fund his political campaign! You think he'll remember you once he gets there (if he gets there)? You are also not to be trusted to make wise investment decisions!

I dnt intend developing that particular place, not now, not even in the future. I've left it for a couple of years now & the value seems to appreciate. I dnt fancy having a single asset in the north central where i recide, reason am considering selling it. I also dnt intend to contribute everything from the sale to his campaign. Am just considering the merits & demerits of my action before trying to convince my woman. Reason am seeking for opinions here.

I get that you don't want to invest in the North where you reside (I'm assuming you are a southerner). But whatever you do, discuss it with your wife before you sell, and if you sell, use the proceeds to buy another land where you'll have peace of mind. Investing in your colleague's campaign can be in any other form
