Dear Nairalanders,

I have observed various threads on this forum with deep concern and i am not entirely happy as to some members responses especially with regards to inquiries from other Nairalanders as it relates to tests and interviews.

Does anyone need to ask for the date, time and venue for a test or interview when such a person is obviously not invited? I personally think it is wrong. If you have the information on what the test format is, I think the best is to give the person making such inquiry rather than harass the person with statements such as being selfish and the likes.

I want to believe this forum is to help get applicants posted and informed about jobs available and most especially provide answers to series of question posed from members concerning test formats.

My observation is that many landers tend to insult others when inquiries are made concerning what to expect at a particular test.

I want to advice that landers should desist from this attitude because i feel that employers will just take advantage of you because they can see desperation in you when you gate-crash.

If you are qualified for a position and you actually applied, i am very sure the organization will not hesitate to call you for written tests or interviews either by text messages, telephone calls or by e-mail.

Please lets stop harassing other landers by this attitude. If you were not invited for a test or interview, i don't see any reason for you to gate-crash.

Lets continue to add values to ourselves, continue to believe in God, hope for the best to come and keep our heads up.

Thanks

I commend your mature approach in writing your contribution. However, there have been cases of persons who gatecrashed and performed well being invited for interview and subsequently got employed. Furthermore, the 'gatecrashing syndrome' arises not only from desperation but other factors like Faith, Hope, etc. After all there is no harm in trying moreso as the worst thet can happen is that gatecrashers are denied entry. But where gatecrashers get the oppourtunity to write, there is a chance of being successful whatever the odds.

Thank you oisrael,

I must commend your response too, to be very honest with you i was actually expecting responses on the negative because so many Nairalanders are guilty of this attitude.

I am not writing off the fact that some gatecrashers excel as such tests, my concern is that nairalanders should stop tagging enquirers with names such as "selfish" and the likes. That is my point, if you've got the information pass it and stop being insultive.

Thanks once again for your response.

Still expecting more responses from others though, especially those who might not be too comfortable with this piece.

Thanks

Actually, i agreed with the writer for those landers who insult others, who needs information for test or interview formats ,which is the main purpose of this great house should stop it and on other hand i ask those of us who get information about an opening, keep it to ourself and go ahead to apply without informing the house about it,only to come back to the forum for help should be highly condem too.But in all i want us to respect each other and tusting that, the Good Lord will take us to our highest height in life

One thing that is important is that to get invited for any test , you must know people and if you are not privileged to know anybody then the next thing to do is to get information that will enable you to gatecrash. thanks

Re: Why Gate Crash? by Shibrette: 1:00pm On Aug 07, 2007
I DON"T SEE PARTICULARLY SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH GATECRASHING!!!! At least, not in the present Nigerian setting.
If the company does have a problem with it, then they wouldn't give jobs to gatecrashers, would they?? Because there are definitely ways of finding out if you gatecrashed their test or not.
Its about survival of the fittest really, take the risk and go to the test centre, if admission is strict, then carry your two legs and go back home. All you would have lost was your transport money or some gas, depending on how far you went.
A friend recently gate crashed a test, passed and is presently going through the interview process. I hope he gets in grin
Let's all be nice to each other though. The world is big enough for everybody and we all deserve the best that we can get.

Gate crashing becomes necessary when employers have failed to short list you due to logistic problems( whatever )or you couldn't apply due to lack of information.

This forum aims at sharing information, If you can demand for information on how a particular company test is like,(which in any case you are not supposed to know before hand since it is a test), then I see no reason why you should not be willing to share information such as the venue, time, date of the test.

leave the gate crashers to the employers is up to them to allow them(gatecrashers) to take the test or not. afterall the test does not guarantee you employment.

Finally , After everything is said and done, I believe is by the Grace of God that you are employed.

Great contributions!
I'm happy with the way topic has been maturely delibrated on.
@Alert mentioned logistic problems and I will like to contribute from that point.

Whenever information on venues and time for tests/interviews are being solicited, it does not actually mean an intent to gate crash.

For instance, when we had Intercontinental Bank test @ Enugu on the 17th of March, some people could not receive their letters of invitation due to logistic problems (eg remote addresses that were difficult to locate). Some of these people came to the venue probably to 'gate crash' but were surprised when they were called and handed their letters at exam venue!
I know someone who missed the opportunity to write the test because she didn't receive a letter of invitation. As for for feelings after the test, your guess is as good as mine!

A second instance is when I met one of the guys who was successful during the oral interview as I was going for my medicals. He didn't even know that they've started calling for medicals then. So he quickly made an enquiry @ at the regional office immediately with his phone. Guess what?

He passed the oral interview but couldn't know about the medical test b/c his phone was not reachable when he was called!

I completely agree with @Shibrette, there is really nothing to lose by gate crashing except transport fare and some amount of energy. That you were not called could be a mistake of some sort or one logistic problem or the other.

So, lets just be positive about every opportunity that comes our way and give in our best to actualize our dreams. With GOD on our side, we shall surely testify grin

my dear lapaz i understand your concern but it would seem u already have a job cos u would not want to be caught up in the struggle others go through besides when u realise that HR departments ave to sift thru thousands of cv's how many people could they possibly call up besides most gate crashers usually excel than their invited counterparts it mite just be maybe age restriction or the HND syndrome that did not work for them in the 1st place.for now gate crashing is still the only option for some.

Re: Why Gate Crash? by xxsly9: 11:34am On Aug 09, 2007
lapaz, wat are u talking abt, but do you know that most people got their present job through gate crashing and i want you also to know that givers of info never lack.
Well, if you think itz not polite, thatz up to you but nobody will give you info on how a test will look like until the info is displayed to the house.
