The general definition of salvation is - "preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss", but more specifically in Christian theology it is "deliverance from sin and its consequences,... brought about by faith in Christ."

In short, what does the Lord Yeshua, the CHRIST, the Word (John 1:1), the Son of GOD (Matthew 8:28, Matthew 14:33) save us from?
Answer - our sins... "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins." - Matthew 1:21

Why this human need since the fall of mankind in Eden?
Answer - because the Law requires payment for sin, which is death! "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:23

What type of death is in focus?
Answer - the second death... the death of the soul. The soul is "the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being..."
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." - Revelation 21:8

Therefore, "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near" - Isaiah 55:6

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." - Psalm 51:17

Yet know that true repentance and faith in CHRIST is by GOD's grace alone - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." - John 1:12-13.
