Most of us operate 2-4 bank accounts, while we use one for day to day cash transactions, there is this one we tend to stash in money and leave it untouched for a period of time.

With the way people die in this country, I strongly believe most if not all (especially the elderly ones) have a bank account no one knows anything about.

My question is, what happens to this monies left by the deceased?

Can banks identify the account of these dead people?

If deceased's family members have his/her BVN, they should be able to know all the accounts linked to the BVN. And they can go to court and get a bank subpoena for the details of those accounts.

Probate is the legal and financial process of dealing with the property, money and possessions of a person who has died. It is a long and complicated process. The Executor of a Will, or Personal Representative when there is no Will, applies to the court for a Grant of Probate.

I'm more concerned about the banks these monies are stashed in and in a scenerio where the deceased have such money secretly without any of his family or friends having any knowledge of it.
