please have any one try storing electric power using hydro system? For example, you have solar panels installed and instead of using lithium batteries to store power, you can use the excess power to pump water back to a overhead tank.
Now this stored water can be released when there's no sunlight to power the solar panel, the released water is made to run through a turbine that spin a generator that produce electricity. mostly at night.
please experts in the house, what amount of solar panel can power a surface pump and still have enough power to power a home.

lalaticlala, seun mynd other modes can you guys pleaseee. we let's have some productive discussion .

Is this a project you want to try out or you just want to have the knowledge about it?

Not now tho, just love the knowledgeable and the fact that its a natural battery system.
Power is a issue in our country. My ish is the type of solar panel that can power your home and still pump water to an overhead tank that serves as batteries.

Ok, I get your point, but some things you need to consider are:

1. Cost of power generation

2. Timing of power generation

3. Low and Peak of power generation

4. Power generation vs Power storage vs Power consumption

5. Single source power generation vs multiple source power generation

I'm trying to explain this whole thing in the simplest form because the explanation might be very long, but just to let you know one major challenge in the power sector is power generation that is why many people in Nigeria have a generator and not a storage for power, so what you should be targeting more is power generation over power storage.

Power storage is good but should only act as a backup when power generation is at a low or totally down, Using solar to power a pumping machine to drive water up a tank would require a very huge solar system, but you need to consider

1. The sunlight , if it's a rainy day or cloudy day, you might not even have enough power to do all of that for that day.

2. Night fall, you will always have to wait till daylight.

3. If your hydro system requires so much more power to get water into the tank than what it generates back to your home and then the amount of water that will be needed to keep it generating till there is enough sun to send water back and if the amount of water required for that is so much that your solar system might not be able to meet up to that demand of water since your only source of generating power is through solar.

What you should do is to increase the sources of your power generation by adding wind turbine with your solar panels, that way you have 2 sources of power and then you can focus less on the storage of the power, because if your consumption of power exceeds the generation of your power even with a storage, it will black out, but with 2 sources you will hardly have a downtime, that doesn't mean you shouldn't have storage like batteries, but you will focus less on it because you will have a more constant power generation that will require less storage.

Clean energy generation is something that is not constant in terms of the energy it produces all the time(as at now), so the best way is to have different sources to make it more constant.

It's just like asking you

1. Would you prefer to eat once a day without knowing the quantity of food that will be brought to you or

2. Would you prefer to eat twice a day without still knowing the quantity of food that will be brought to you

I will go for number 2 because it is more constant whether big or small rather than number 1 which does not also guaranty big or small too.
Though there are still a whole lot of technical explanation involved but I am just trying to minimize all that and explain in the simplest form.

Aptly put. You're right to certain degree cos to get good enough head on the system, I'll need minimal of 35feet
By my calculations, that will be 11 solar panels to generate enough power to power a surface pump to pump water back to my tank.
Wind ..... Don't know, I don't live close to the coast. Instead I would rather supplement with phcn in pumping the water

Nice, that will be another good idea, you can please keep me updated anytime you start, I will love to see it work...
