The General Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has called on Nigerians to prioritise nation building over ethnicity and religion.

Bakare, who was one of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirants, stated this during a sermon on Sunday.

Reacting to the controversy surrounding the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of running mate, the popular pastor kicked against religious sentiment in politics.

According to him, what the country needs is leadership that would work for both Christian and Muslims.

He said, “We dream of a Nigeria in which every woman as well as every man will be able to aspire to any political office at any time without playing the ethnic card and without recourse to it’s our turn or it’s their turn.

This is the full report of his statement.

TEXT OF SPEECH BY DR ‘TUNDE BAKARE AT A VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING COURTESY OF THE PTB4NIGERIA IN DIASPORA GROUP
DATE: SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2022
THEME: A NEW NIGERIA IS STILL POSSIBLE

Protocols.
Let me begin by expressing deep gratitude to the Almighty God, the architect, custodian and executor of my unalterable destiny. I also
profoundly appreciate the PTB4Nigeria team in Calgary, Canada, as well as my supporters across the globe for your steadfast and unyielding faith in Nigeria’s divinely ordained destiny and our collective responsibility towards its realisation. In particular, I would like to use this opportunity to once again thank you all for teaming up with me as I became the standard-bearer for the New Nigeria as an aspirant to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

You will recall that before that adventure into the murky waters of politics, I met with you on April 9, 2022, to unveil the sixteen steps to the New Nigeria in a speech titled “The Portrait of a New Nigeria: The 16th Unveiled.”1 In that speech, I predicated our collective responsibility to take the sixteenth step on seven indicators, namely the Mood, the Man, the Mission, the Mandate, the Message, the Medium, and the Moment.

Accordingly, convinced that the Mood of the nation called for a certain kind of leader and knowing that I possessed the qualities required of the Man or woman our nation needs at this time, I embarked on a mission to spearhead the emergence of the New Nigeria as the sixteenth
president of Nigeria. That mission was hinged on a four-part Mandate which aims to transform Nigeria into the Peace, Progress, Prosperity, and Possibilities capital of the world. Consequently, at every opportunity, I faithfully articulated our Message, “A New Nigeria for Every Nigerian” — a message that was broad enough to open new vistas of greatness for our nation, but personalised enough to reignite the hopes and dreams of every Nigerian.

Against the backdrop of my political trajectory, in the course of which I had previously engaged the nation as running mate to the then General Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and afterwards facilitated the emergence of the APC from a merger of CPC and other progressive parties in 2013, the APC became the suitable Medium through which I propagated this
progressive message. I did all of these because I was convinced that this is the Moment. Consequently, in that April 9, 2022, speech, I charged
you with the following words:
I am confident that “the darkest nights produce the brightest stars.” The worsening challenges that now confront us as a nation on the eve of the sixteenth dispensation are indicators of an opportunity for the emergence of stellar nation-builders at home and in the diaspora. Now is the time and this is the moment for such nation-builder to work towards one objective: the emergence of a New Nigeria.

Despite the outcome of the primaries, as I said in a press statement on June 12, 2022:
Our heads remain unbowed because we did not compromise on the values that are integral to building a New Nigeria. For us, the means has always been as important as the end. This is why we confidently wear our “zero votes” as a badge of “zero tolerance for a certain kind of politics.”

Since the conclusion of the primaries, Nigerians have been aligning with their preferred candidates. We have seen the BATs and the Atikulated build camps around the respective flagbearers of the parties to which they have sworn loyalty. We have also seen the OBIdients emerge as a vibrant political force especially among the youth, lending credence to the idea of a Third Force. This is even as the Kwankwasiyyas and other political blocs stake their claim to power. Amidst the attendant political intrigues and tradeoffs, the inescapable
fact is that the mood of our nation signals the quest for a different kind of nation. From the worsening insecurity that has rendered the Nigerian an endangered citizen to the mounting economic hardships that have left Nigerians extremely vulnerable; from the institutional neglect of our educational system that has halted the progress of many young Nigerians to the deteriorating infrastructure that has continued to expose households and businesses to unimaginable levels of deprivation and inconvenience, the Nigerian people are fed up with the state of the nation. This has led to a renewed wave of citizens’ movement as seen in the rush of Nigerians, especially the youth, to register and obtain Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs). Amidst such momentum, I am aware that the question on the minds of our supporters across the globe is, “Quo Vadis, Nigeria?” that is, “Which way, Nigeria?” Again, as I said in a press statement on June 12:

There is still a cause and there is still a nation to transform. This is not the work of just one man or woman or just one party, but the calling upon every Nigerian worthy of the name.

Distinguished Nigerian citizens, in the midst of the chaotic occurrences in our nation, it remains our collective responsibility to rekindle the hope of Nigerians across the nation and in the diaspora. Even as the fabric of national cohesion continues to endure battery from divisive ethnic, religious and partisan forces, we choose to remain the voice of nationhood. We choose to abide by our Distinct Nationhood Agenda
(DNA), which is a commitment to the rebirth of a united Nigeria. We choose to remain the bridge between Nigeria’s past, present and future,
and the galvanising force that brings every Nigerian together around the ideal of a New Nigeria irrespective of which part of the country they
come from, which political party they pitch their tent with, or which way they choose to worship God. We choose to do this because we believe that building the New Nigeria is the calling upon every Nigerian. To those Nigerians for whom my continued declaration of my dreams of a New Nigeria despite the outcome of the just concluded APC national convention raises more questions than answers, let me restate categorically that I have never been driven by political ambition. I have always been driven by the promptings of destiny. I am driven by the
groanings of the Nigerian people who are daily harassed by the harsh realities of the Nigerian experience. I am driven by a compelling desire
to change that negative reality and to give every Nigerian the experience of a New Nigeria. This was why I ran for president in the first place. I
am a nation builder and, as a nation builder, I have accepted the responsibility to build a New Nigeria. This is a responsibility that we
must collectively accept because it is a responsibility that we owe to our beloved nation.

We owe this responsibility to every Nigerian whose hopes and dreams have been dashed and who has no more strength to hope or courage to dream of a better nation. We owe this responsibility to every Nigerian for whom the Nigerian promise has been more honoured in the breach than in its fulfilment. We owe this responsibility to Nigerians across the nation who feel that they have been shortchanged by the promise of change. Therefore, as a unique breed of nation builders who bring to the national discourse our unconventional brand of politics, we remain committed to the cause of a New Nigeria: a Nigeria where every city, every town and every village can dwell in safety and security without fear of invasion by terrorists and criminals; a Nigeria where the little boys and little girls in our communities will have access to the best quality education whether they are the son of a multimillionaire or the daughter of a petty trader; a Nigeria where our young men and young women can go to school without interruption by strikes and can graduate from school in due course with a guaranty of decent jobs or thriving enterprises; a Nigeria that will fulfill the hopes of that young entrepreneur in our neighbourhood who wishes they lived in a nation where ideas thrive and creativity is rewarded; a Nigeria where that business owner in our local government area can do business with guaranteed access to power supply and functional transportation infrastructure; a Nigeria where the dreams of a great nation sprouting in the heart of the Nigerian child will be nurtured because he or she is a citizen of a nation where childhood dreams come true. Spearheading the birth of such a nation remains our collective responsibility.

This is why I remain optimistic about our country’s future. I remain optimistic because Nigeria is a nation richly blessed by God; a land full
of opportunities, endowed with the human and material resources needed to overcome her challenges; a nation of possibilities. The unlikely story of a little boy raised in abject poverty by a single mother on the rocky hills of Abeokuta, who, against all odds, rose to be a frontline vice-presidential candidate in Nigeria and, subsequently, a presidential aspirant, is proof that the miracle of a New Nigeria is possible, that our griefs and grievances as a nation can be healed, and that our dreams, yours and mine, even our long-lost dreams, can still come true. And so, again I say to you, my fellow Nigerians, a New Nigeria is still possible. This is why we continue to fly the flag of our convictions at full mast. It is why we remain unbowed. We remain unbowed by the throes of darkness that threaten to engulf our nation; we remain unbowed because we know that a New Nigeria is still possible. We remain unbowed by the onslaught of terrorists, bandits and criminals against the peace and stability of our nation; we remain unbowed because we know that a New Nigeria is still possible. We remain unbowed by the continued assault of corruption and violence on our national psyche; we remain unbowed because we know that a New Nigeria is still possible. We remain unbowed by the depth of dilapidation that has rendered our infrastructural landscape obsolete and dysfunctional; we remain unbowed because we know that a New Nigeria is still possible. We remain unbowed by the institutional decay and mounting indebtedness that threaten the future of our nation; yes, we remain unbowed because we are confident that a New Nigeria is still possible.

For those who are asking how long it will take to see the dream of the New Nigeria fulfilled; for those who are asking when righteousness will
exalt this nation and when corruption will be dethroned and integrity enthroned; for those who are asking when every Nigerian child will be
guaranteed access to quality education and when our hospitals will become life-saving institutions; for those who are asking when Nigerian
homes, schools, streets, villages, highways and cities will, once again, be safe and secure and Nigerians can work, play and travel with their minds at rest, and go to bed with their hearts at peace; for those who are asking when the Nigerian youth will be guaranteed a nation that truly nurtures their potential; for those who are asking when every Nigerian citizen will have a cause to be proud of their ‘Nigerianess’ and when our nation will once again be a beacon of hope to Africa and the world: I say to you, it will not be long, because in the words popularised by Martin Luther King, Jr.:
Truth forever on the scaffold,
Wrong forever on the throne,
Yet that scaffold sways the future,
And, behind the dim unknown,
Standeth God within the shadow,
Keeping watch above his own.4

You may ask, “How long?” My answer, “Not long, because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”5

Even as the world wonders what will become of our dream of a New Nigeria, I am also reminded of the words of the late Chief Obafemi
Awolowo, on September 11, 1963. Just before he was sentenced for treasonable felony by Justice G. B. A. Coker, Chief Awolowo stated:
It is, therefore, with a brave heart, with confident hope, and with faith in my unalterable destiny, that I go from this twilight into the darkness, unshaken in my trust in the Providence of God that a glorious dawn will come on the morrow. My adversaries might say who am I to think that if I am imprisoned the country might suffer? What if I died?
The point, of course, is that I am still alive and will not die in prison. Furthermore, the spirit of man knows no barrier, never dies, and can be projected to any part of the world.
This being so I am confident that the ideals of social justice and individual liberty which I hold dear will continue to be projected beyond the prison walls and bars until they are realized in our lifetime.6

History tells us that, in the similitude of Joseph who was released from prison to preserve his nation and the then-known world as Prime Minister of Egypt, Chief Obafemi Awolowo did come out of prison and would go on to serve our country as Leader of Government Business,
Federal Commissioner for Finance, and Vice-Chairman of the Federal Executive Council, which made him a Prime Minister of sorts under
General Yakubu Gowon. It was between these two leaders, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and General Yakubu Gowon, that I sat in a dream as
a 13-year-old boy; a dream that propelled me into a lifetime of nationbuilding. This is why I am confident that I will see the New Nigeria in my lifetime.

Furthermore, I draw inspiration from the biblical story of Mordecai. You will recall that Mordecai was loyal and faithful to King Ahasuerus when two eunuchs plotted to assassinate the king. But rather than promoting Mordecai for his loyalty, Haman the Agagite was promoted and the command was given by the king that everyone at the gate must bow down to the newly-promoted Haman. The king’s command was not
acceptable to Mordecai, being of the seed of the Jews, and he refused to bow to the Agagite.

Fellow Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, it is said that fortune favours the bold. We have refused to step down for any and every Haman the Agagite in our body politic. And as sure as the house of Haman became the house of the uncompromising nonconformist Mordecai, we trust God in His wisdom to remember us for good.

Therefore, this is no time to give up! This is the time to step up and march on with our eyes set on the picture of our preferred future. This is
the time and this is the moment. This is the moment where we begin to revive the dreams of our founding patriots — the dreams of a Nigeria strong and united though tribes and tongues may differ; the dreams of a Nigeria where no one is oppressed or marginalised, whether they are Igbos, Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis or of any of the so-called minority ethnic groups; the dreams of a people whose greatness the world eagerly awaits. This is the moment where we begin to live up to the ideals etched in our founding creed — the ideals of a Nigeria blessed with peace and plenty with no one left behind; the ideals of a Nigeria where our youth attain lofty heights and build a nation where justice reigns; the ideals of a people who, with pride, fly their country’s flag wherever in the world they may reside. This is the moment where we begin to build a bridge between the dreams of our past, the realities of our present, and the visions of our future towards a New Nigeria, a Nigeria where every woman as well as every man, and every girl as well as every boy, can live up to their full potential, and be all that they were created to be.
And so, with courage, determination, and unwavering faith in our divinely ordained destiny as one strong and united people, let us arise and build the New Nigeria; a great nation that will become the Peace, Progress, Prosperity and Possibilities capital of the world.

Thank you for listening; God bless you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

So for your mind now na Tinubu and his VP be the most competent candidate APC can offer?
Anyway APC is synonymous with sick old and incompetent candidates right from their inception.
If religion and region doesn't matter why was the agitation for power to shift to south?Remember (AWA south Lokan)
Why didn't Tinubu choose a competent VP from south?

Speak for yourself....You are first your ethnicity...then you became a christian.....but when it comes to good governance it's a gift and talent and it is not based on religion or lack of religion....

If we are to flow with the pastor then the more reason we canvass for ObiDiati.
Two young men with outstanding innovative minds plus a balanced ticket to further promote fairness, unity, tolerance, trust and equity as a Country with diversities.
Apc on the other hand should be apologizing to Nigerians for everyone can attest that they are the worst disaster to befall this Country.
They don't deserve to be in the ballots again.

“What we need is a New Nigeria that ............ https://janefblog.com/2023-pastor-tunde-bakare-finally-to-react-on-muslim-muslim-ticket/

This conman has never been a genuine pastor. He is more concerned about playing politics than wining souls or protecting the lives of Christians.

He is not just a scammer pretending to be a pastor, but also a hardcore tribalist who sees everything through the prism of ethnicity and what he stands to benefit personally before any other consideration.

Only Oyedepo and a few others are genuinely interested in protecting Christians in Nigeria, the rest including this scammer are after their pocket and selfish interests. If you're attending this cobman's church just know you're deceiving yourself.
