My observation: Shagari won, because Southern states gave him considerable votes. Oyo gave him 177k votes. 5 Likes 1 Share |

My observations; 1. Aminu was from Kano and won only in Kano state. 2. Waziri was from Borno and won only in Borno state. 3. Awolowo was from the South West and won the region. 4. Azikiwe won his region, the South East, as well. 5. Shagari won not because of the 90% "not online" Almajiris, but rather because of the votes of the "politically irrelevant" South Southerners and the Middle belt (North Central). These regions have been neglected or politically dealt with for decades, and like in 1979, the next president will be decided by them. 13 Likes |

So the voting population of Ondo and Oyo were bigger than those of Kano and Kaduna respectively as at 1979 and the opposite is the reality today. While those states have all been Balkanized into two states respectively, Kano and Kaduna still retained their population during censors while we are made to believe that the southern states are ghost towns/states with no commensurate population. Population in this country is a fraud. 7 Likes |

Praxis758: You cannot use the stats to vet population growth. Northerners are more active than Southerners , in electoral matters. They register for voters' cards and massively vote. 1 Like |

Shagari/Ekwueme 1979 And Nigerians reinforced a man who toppled a democratically elected government in 1983. Such a weakling! He failed woefully with his Yoruba combo in 1985. And he failed again with his Yoruba combo in 2022! Shame to them and to those who voted them! |

If these were the results in 1979, then something is wrong with the census being carried out in Nigeria. The northern region is churning out numbers from nowhere knowing election is determined by such. |

Praxis758:That's not entirely true. Ekiti state was created out of the then Ondo state, ditto Osun state from the then Oyo state. So, the population of the areas will also be affected now that other states have been created out of them. 1 Like |

deekseen: Imagine what would happen in 2023 following the voting patterns of 1979: Everyone would win his region, only that votes in the core North would be shared. The core North oligarchy (or political Mafia, you call them 'the cabal', they call themselves 'owners of Nigeria') may decide to go with a consensus candidate, most likely, Atiku. The core North oligarchy would never back a Southerner for fear of betrayal of their interest. The majority of electorates would vote for balance and equity. The seeming 'minorities' would decide the elections. No state or region is unimportant. The '97% -5%' card would not work. The electorates would vote for candidates and not parties. But unlike 1979, The 'structure' may be the need for change, a better standard of living, a better and all-inclusive government. |

beautyhd:Some key factors are responsible for the results we are getting in our recent elections that make it porous and different from what it used to be 1. Southerners no longer give birth to many kids like in previous generations unlike their northern counterparts. 2. Alot of Southerners have moved abroad to settle in different parts of the world in search of better and quality life with no hope to return. 3. Also, We are beclouded by our sophistry. We are hanging closely to our imaginary and utopian dream lives without doing much pragmatically to achieve them. Instead of going out to vote on election days, we rather stay on the phone or glued to television, trailing feelers and reactions from quarters of no concern. On the other end, average aboki is multitasking by listening to radio even while casting his vote. 4. As of today, an average southerner believe that with his/her phone, exposure and education, he/she deserves the best and more than anyone even without lifting a finger. How true can that be? All we do is sending kids to school without positioning them for power. We need to school our kids on how to lead and how to be led. 5. These and more are the combination of factors that bring about low turnout in elections in (southern) our region and eventually bring disaster into Nigerian leadership. Mind you, it happened in the past also but it's getting bigger and worse now. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Anyone telling you Niger Delta will vote Peter Obi should be shown this historical result . No Igbo candidate has ever made headway in the ND. You can all see how Igbos voted their Azikiwe overwhelmingly but still lost . Same time for Awo in the SW. The next elections is a repeat of the 1979 elections and the north will clinch it with votes from the ND , MB and north proper . Both Tinubu and Obi are only mopping up regional ethnic votes. |
