The 2021/22 season for Barcelona has been a forgettable one so far because the team seems to have tripped from one crisis to another the entire time.

Due to their summer financial struggles, they lost their star player Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain and had to make a number of other questionable transfer moves in order to survive.

In addition, Xavi took over as coach after Ronald Koeman was fired following the team's loss against Rayo Vallecano. After a tie with Alaves, summer acquisition Sergio Aguero was brought to the hospital with lung issues and, regrettably, had to announce his retirement.

Under Xavi, things have gotten better for Barcelona, who recently upset league leaders Real Madrid 4-0 at Santiago Bernabeu and are back in the top four.

With the arrivals of Adama Traore, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Ferran Torres, they were one of the most active clubs in Europe during the January transfer window.

Barcelona leased away a few players over the summer in addition to allowing some depart on long-term contracts so they could play for the first team and save some money on wages.
