Opposition Against APC Single Faith Ticket Rages, As North Central Youths Demand Shettima’s Removal

The opposition against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has refused to abate despite the claim by the leadership of the party that it has opened discussions with aggrieved chieftains.

Some youths on Friday who claimed to be members of the party in the North Central zone staged protests in Abuja against the single faith ticket.

Operating under the platform, North Central Progressives Youth (NCPY), they demanded the removal of two-term Borno governor, Kashim Shettima as the Vice- Presidential candidate to the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Convener of the group, Comrade Musa Attah who addressed journalists at Unity Fountain before he led a procession to the Presidential Villa claimed that a single faith ticket was a threat to the legacies of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said: “Mr President, on numerous occasions you have promised to bequeath a democratic system imbued with workable institutional structures that will stand the test of time. True to your word, the nation’s electoral system has been revolutionised.”

“Mr President, your footprints will never be forgotten in the area of infrastructure. The fact that there’s still a country called Nigeria is due to your resilience despite the mirage of security challenges. We are also coping with the global economic crisis. Meanwhile, the trial of the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation and many others have proven your zero tolerance for corruption. There are no sacred cows.

“Yet your biggest legacy will be your successor. Whoever takes over from you will either consolidate on some of these gains achieved in the last seven years or dissuade them all. As a progressive nation, we wouldn’t want the latter. And that is why we are beckoning on you to call the ruling All Progressives Congress to order as regards its presidential candidates.”

Attah who maintained that the NCPY has nothing against the aspiration of Bola Tinubu faulted his choice of a fellow Muslim as running mate.

The group further claimed that the same faith ticket was against provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

“Tinubu’s alliance with Shettima may just be his undoing. In the face of unprecedented disunity, the same faith ticket is a disregard for the country’s fragility and would further polarize the nation. Sections 14 and 15 of the Constitution talk about Federal Character. The question is, does the choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket fit into that Federal Character? As they say in law, you can’t come to equity without clean hands. He who wants equity must do equity. Is there equity in that Muslim-Muslim choice?

“The rejection of the same faith ticket should not be seen as Christian objection but a protest by every Nigerian in favour of democracy which guarantees freedom of choice, freedom of expression, and freedom of worship. Nigeria is a secular state. Our forefathers were aware of this even before they designed the Constitution. And in making these choices, we must be sensitive to the sensibilities of the people. It shouldn’t be lorded over the people, to whom the power belongs.

“A Muslim-Muslim presidency would mean a sectional national ideology to replace the liberty upon which Nigeria was established as a country. With Shettima, the APC is implying that Christians in the North are of no consequence in the scheme of things. We have a huge Christian population in the North-East and North-West. In the northcentral, the Christians are dominant. This is why Shettima must vacate this position.”

The opposition go finish APC and tinubu when campaign starts.. I just pray Tinubu won't fuel the assault on him and apc by d speeches he would be giving then..cos atimes hes incoherent.

Every sane person in the country knows Peter Obi is the only solution Nigeria needs to be up and running once again.

Those supporting same faith ticket of piss piss daddy also knows what is right; their subconscious mind knows the truth, but their conscientious stupidity keeps making them deny it.

APC will fail woefully come 2023. The BAT's wings will be clipped.

Tinubu put his personal ambition and interest above that of the nation. That is the only reason he jettisoned common sense, equity and fairness, and went for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He believes that is the only ticket that can get him bloc northern Muslims vote and secure him victory.

As far as Tinubu is concerned, the Northern Christians and Southern Christians can go to hell.

So what do you expect from someone like that assuming, but God forbid, he is elected as President? Of course, it will all be about Tinubu, his family and friends. Burning national issues and interests of the masses will take a back seat.

Come to think of it. Is it only Christianity or Islam we have in Nigeria?

Why can't a Traditionalist or an Atheist or others rule Nigeria?
This shows how over religious we are.

Most freedom fighters in Nigeria are not even christians or Muslim, they just believe in humanity.

APC will simply lose the presidency to PDP.

FG APC will clampdown on Obi few days d election in order to win some Eastern and Southern States and the dude will run away from Nigeria. He will begin a serious propaganda against APC government abroad.

Wike and his terms must be totally Ignored. Bringing Wike into d camp will make PDP Lose votes in Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Anambra, Ebonyi . Let Wike go. Rivers is always PDP.

All I know for real is that Atiku presidency will dismantle all this APC useless policies.

I don't even know y ppl r bothered about BATs choice of vice. I'm not bothered bcuz I'm sure he is not going to win. APC has crippled Nigeria and no sane Nigerian should vote them again. But I'm sure we all in Nigeria are not sane that is why some ppl are still campaigning for them.

My only prayer is let the voting be done electronically as promised by INEC by then our grandfathers will realise that it's no more business as usual

The sweetest part of it will be that if u r a public office holder, you must be an achiever to retain the sit in the next elections.

We still dey kpooo around

It only rages in the minds of those opposition who knew all along that Tinubu would be President next year.

They were never going to vote for him and had preferred a weaker Northerner to help their own aspirations.

Tinubu out-manoeuvred them.

I have taken my time to study this Buhari very well.
Trust me he is very sincere with electoral reform.
He doesnt meddle into electoral politics like others b4 him.
It us now upto Nigerians to decide who takes over from him.
The Buhari I know will not assist anyone to win including his APC.

It seems that a section of the media is intent on fanning the flames of this Muslim Muslim ticket issue.

Majority if not all of these groups are sponsored by aggrieved politicians, some even from the opposition parties or even Christian organisations.

If you ask these youths to show you their membership card now, you will see that they don't have it. This is political season, anybody can wake up, form a group and start protesting. Claiming their love for Asiwaju as the reason for their protest is just a form of blackmail. If they love Asiwaju as claimed, they will accept his choice, believe in his decision and choose to work for him. If they are really APC members and they are unable to accept his decision, then they should leave the party as Daniel Bwala did and let everyone rest.

Media should shift conversation away from this issue and try and focus on something else. APC will not change the ticket and majority of the party members (except from some small pockets of resistance) have already queued behind the ticket and are willing to work for BAT/KSM victory.

No amount of media propaganda will change the reality on the ground.
