1. It was inventor and entrepreneur thomas edison who invented the word 'hello' with an 'e' as a greeting, primarily for answering the telephone. (the word 'hullo' with a u which already existed was more an exclamation of 'what-have-we-here?' variety.)

Alexander graham bell (inventor of the telephone in 1876) preferred to answer his early phone calls with 'ahoy, hoy!'

The first telephone call- on bell's equipment, atleast was 'mr watson! Come here. I want you!' this wasn't planned. bell had spilled battery acid on his trousers and called out to his assistant for help. He hadn't realized the message would be heard on watson's receiver
