ANNOUNCEMENT: Action Kin Event On Nairaland - Get N5k To Help A Community by Actionkin: 6:25pm On Sep 14, 2022
Hello Nairalanders, while this account is new, the people behind Action Kin have been on Nairaland since its early days, in 2005.
So we're not new here. Politics mods, please don't remove the post, as these types of projects would not be necessary if our politicians hadn't woefully failed us. It's a long post, so bear with us.

As the title says, we will be having a small event on Nairaland, NEXT WEEK, which we're hoping many of you will participate.
As the title states, we'll be offering N5,000 to the first 200 Nairalanders interested, during the event. 1 million naira total.

IMPORTANT
This N5,000 can not be used for your personal use or be withdrawn to your personal account.
It can only be used in donating to any of the projects people on Nairaland nominate to execute. The intent is altruistic, not for personal gain.

What is Action Kin?
We are a newly launching social enterprise platform. Meaning, while we are NOT an "NGO" or a 'Charity," our activities deliver equivalent outcomes for society. Just think of us as the "cool" version of those cool
We are specifically a crowdfunding platform, where anyone can start a campaign to benefit a needy community. No personal campaigns.

So a campaign for a borehole in a community with no water, or renovating a dilapidated school is a good example.
On the other hand, a campaign for one person's school fees or medical expenses isn't a good fit for Action Kin. It has to benefit multiple people - at community level.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mG4ftTrpNc

How will the Nairaland event work?
We are hoping with the support of the mods, we can have this done in an organized way next week. However, here's what we propose:

1. We'll need people on Nairaland to nominate impoverished communities who would benefit most from this. In other words, do you know a community where people have no access to clean water, and could use a borehole?

2. We'll need people to sign up on Action Kin and get a N5,000 credit to their Action Kin account, in order to donate to the projects nominated on Nairaland.

Requirements to nominate a community project:
In order to nominate a community to benefit from this, you must be capable and ready to execute whatever you propose.
e.g, if you nominate a community to get a borehole, you must be available to act as the project manager, at no financial benefit to you.

The funds raised will only be paid to the contractor you negotiate with. The contractor must be a verifiable registered business. We have checks and balances to ensure full transparency, and to secure the project funds from being misappropriated.

As stated earlier, this is altruistic, not for personal gain. So we understand it's not for everybody, as times are hard.

However, the goal here is for you to bring change and improvement to your community or one close to you. You will sleep better at night, knowing you're the reason people in Community XYZ no longer have to walk for miles, to get dirty water from a polluted stream. cool
If you nominate a borehole, for instance, your name will also appear on that borehole, as a co-facilitator.

Requirements to get the N5k:
Nairalanders who want to be part of these projects will sign up on the platform, and receive a N5k credit.
Then you can donate this N5k to the projects, as you see fit. Details on that will be provided during the event, not now.

What project types can people nominate?
As stated before, it has to benefit people at community level. So some of the following are good options:

1. A borehole at a location where it's cost effective (as the budget is small).
2. Supplies for a local hospital in dire need. E.g, a few hospital beds and medical supplies.
3. Furniture or basic renovation at a run down school.
etc.

We will provide more details over the following days, leading up to next week. Thanks for reading the long post, and we hope you'll participate in making Naija a better place, at the local level.

. Nairalanders who want to be part of these projects will sign up on the platform, and receive a N5k credit.
Then you can donate this N5k to the projects

Why not donate the 5K directly to the project

Must you give me the 5k to donate on your behalf undecided

That's a very valid question, which we expected will be asked. However, there are two reasons we're doing it this way:

1. There will be 2-3 projects which will be nominated and executed by people on Nairaland. So we want people to assign funds to whichever they think deserves it.

2. With these types of projects, the intent is to get many people involved in the process. Not because it's the most efficient way to do it, but because that's how people can get involved and understand what we're trying to achieve. So they can ultimately start their own campaigns to make changes in their own communities. With funds crowdfunded on ActionKin, not just donated by ActionKin.

As stated in the post, since we are a newly launching platform, healthy skepticism of our intent is natural and welcome.
We already expect a lot of "na scam," "na format" etc, so it's fine.

We are based in the US & Canada. Most of our operations are currently in Canada, catering mostly to Underrepresented Minorities and Senior Citizens (elderly people).

What do you find confusing? I'll be happy to make it clear, as that's the whole point of doing this on Nairaland.
We want people to know exactly what we're doing, and how they can do the same thing on our platform. To bring some change to their community, or a poor community they choose to help.

We haven't started the nomination process. However, it's not as simple as nominating a place. Please read the full post, to see requirements.
The summary is, you need to:

1. Be capable and available to be the "project manager"

This means you'll determine how much whatever you want to do in the community is, and negotiate with a local vendor that can execute or deliver it at that price. You will supervise the vendor's work and accountability and make sure the project gets done (with proof).
The money will never go through your hands, but directly from our platform to the vendor you find (a registered business).

2. Understand that the only benefit to you is knowing you have done something for your community, e.g facilitated a borehole for them. There will be no financial benefit or incentive to you.

As I stated to someone else, healthy skepticism is fine. As long as you take a second look and reassess the situation. We know how Naija be.
We are not a charity or an NGO. We're a commercial platform that facilitates the betterment of communities. So same results, but a different approach.

- In the US & Canada: We cater to the welfare of Underrepresented Minorities and Senior Citizens (elderly people) in different communities.
I'll attach a few pics from one of our smaller senior citizen events, at our main base in Canada. Dem chop Naija puff puff tire cheesy
The Founder of ActionKin can be seen in pink.

- In Nigeria: We are launching as a crowdfunding platform, where people (like you) can crowdfund improvements in your community.
Strictly community improvement crowdfunding, like boreholes, community health, school renovations etc. No personal crowdfunding, like one person's rent.

Thanks for your interest in helping the community you live in. We're not running the nominations yet on this thread, but feel free to make cost inquiries. Just so you can have a budget to suggest along with your nomination. keep in mind, the budget for this project is low.

For a borehole project, for instance, we can assign about N300-400k to it. This might be tough to execute at that price, but not impossible.
Which is where your negotiating skills with your local vendor/engineer comes into play.
Note: The vendor must be a registered business that can be verified.

Once again, this is not meant to reward you in any financial way. The only benefit to you is that you will make a change in your community, and the community borehole will also have your name on it as a "co-facilitator."

One example of a small ongoing project we're supporting in Nigeria, is a free dental care drive currently being done by Smile For 9ja, in Ondo state. The project by Smile for 9ja is providing free dental care to members of many communities.

Since Nairaland is not as engaging as it used to be (mainly with the homepage now the primary focus), we are reviewing this project.

1. The original plan was N5k per person who wants to be involved in the process. However, we think about N50k per person makes it so fewer participants are needed.

2. We will be determining the specific type of project we want executed, and a budget for it. Then whoever nominates their community and others agree, will execute it. e.g, 400k-500k for a borehole. You nominate only a community you believe that amount can execute the project in.
Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: Action Kin Event On Nairaland - Get N5k To Help A Community by Actionkin: 5:34pm On Oct 04, 2022
UPDATE: We went ahead and posted the main nomination and project thread today. However, it appears that thread was removed by the mods. It is unfortunate that legitimate projects with positive intent get roadblocked by those who complain about the plight of Nigerians.

That said, feel free to visit and join us at https://actionkin.com, as we're unable to run the intended projects on Nairaland, as planned.

We'll leave you with the Classic Man himself, Jidenna briefly explaining what Action Kin is. We hope you join us in improving the lives of millions.
