that chapter is part of what we today will call penal code. for judges. you may actually enjoy the read. as a matter of fact i wonder how come you raised the question on onanism

here is a very severe but just law to punish impudence and immodesty. 1. The instance of it is confessedly scandalous to the highest degree. A woman could not do it unless she were perfectly lost to all virtue and honour. 2. The occasion is such as might in part excuse it; it was to help her husband out of the hands of one that was too hard for him. Now if the doing of it in a passion, and with such a good intention, was to be so severely punished, much more when it was done wantonly and in lust.[i][/i] 3. The punishment was that her hand should be cut off; and the magistrates must not pretend to be more merciful than God: Thy eye shall not pity her. Perhaps our Saviour alludes to this law when he commands us to cut off the right hand that offends us, or is an occasion of sin to us. Better put the greatest hardships that can be upon the body than ruin the soul for ever. Modesty is the hedge of chastity, and therefore ought to be very carefully preserved and kept up by both sexes.

Verses like this, as well as many others in the holy word of GOD are parabolic in nature and illustrative of Spiritual things, though at the time, before The Lord JESUS CHRIST came to fulfill the law, they were to be undertaken literally.  The Law is The Law, which is a shadow of things (Col 2:16, Heb 10:1).  How does it take away from the core message of the gospel of salvation from the righteous wrath of GOD for sin on mankind through The Lord JESUS CHRIST, The only Savior, which is this:

“For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of GOD [is] eternal life through JESUS CHRIST our Lord.”  - Rom 6:23

if a woman does that in pure interest of her husband, she is to lose her arm TALKLESS/ NOT TO NOW EVEN IMAGINE THE extreme possibilty of lacking in restraint as to grab a man's privates.

if a woman wants to defend her husband, there are several parts of a man to attack, even men with sense don't grab each other's privates when fighting

my friend,you are talking with two mouths.at one end you say if the woman does it with good intention she is innocent.then you sayd there are other parts of a man a woman can strike to defend her husband.you are simply saying that a woman should not touch the private part because she would be accused of lusting.

first let me tell you (assuming you do not know and you are a kid) that there is no way possible anyone to know the intention of another person if the person does not reveal it.so put the issue of intention aside.the verse does not cover that.the verse is telling us if a woman grab the pe.nis of a man to defend her husband,cut off her hands!!! it does not differeniate between your "good intention" and "bad intention".

as for your point that a woman can hit a man on other parts to save her husband,i should let you know (in case you are a woman who does not have balls) that the private parts of a man is the weakest spot that can render him motionless.if you got balls,may be you can try hitting them and see the effect.
