That's great.

Just like how people run away from buying bags of rice, people will soon run away from buying clothes.

Stone age, here we come.

Hmmm. Protectionism.

Now you know before you start complaining that customs siezed your goods or containers. Do not bring those items into Nigeria, if you do, they shall be siezed , burnt and all your funds lost.

For those ignorant of the reason and the benefits of protectionism, free yourself of hate and bigotry and get educated that protectionism is in your interest to give you jobs that can cure you of idleness. For the few ones among you uncouth, badly raised, lazy and idle youths who are ready and willing to work and end the idle life style of social media addiction, protectionism will create more jobs and credible alternatives for you wink

Reasons for Protectionism
An economy usually adopts protectionist policies to encourage domestic investment in a specific industry. For instance, tariffs on the foreign import of shoes would encourage domestic producers to invest more resources in shoe production.

In addition, nascent domestic shoe producers would not be at risk from established foreign shoe producers. Although domestic producers are better off, domestic consumers are worse off as a result of protectionist policies, as they may have to pay higher prices for somewhat inferior goods or services. Protectionist policies, therefore, tend to be very popular with businesses and very unpopular with consumers.

Advantages of Protectionism
More growth opportunities: Protectionism provides local industries with growth opportunities until they can compete against more experienced firms in the international market
Lower imports: Protectionist policies help reduce import levels and allow the country to increase its trade balance.
More jobs: Higher employment rates result when domestic firms boost their workforce
Higher GDP: Protectionist policies tend to boost the economy’s GDP due to a rise in domestic production.

My mother used to sell used clothes and part of it funded my education.

Where are the textile companies?
Have you provide a policy frameworks for that sector?

Have you encourages special economic zones for textile production?
What of cotton farming?

Are the farmers still in farm or they have all left the farm thanks to insecurity?
Have you given them low cost funding for modern equipments?

Wuruwuru to the answer govt.

Buy Nigeria to grow Nigeria

That is why we need someone like atiku abubakar, who is a manufacturer with more than 20 businesses, and over half of that is just welfarism/charity based businesses. What he does, is take from lucrative businesses to subsidize not too lucrative ones. At the end of the month, all the staff gets paid and everyone is happy with their families
he is not like obituary an importer of groceries for over 30years driving down naira value. That Couldn't metamorphose into production like Dangote , BUA, Adeleke etc

I know as the President of Nigeria. Atiku would be able to do this for all.
Follow who know road.
Vote for atiku abubakar
Vote for PDP.

Can Nigeria produce refrigerators?

Let me break down the major components
1. Insulation
2. Compressor
3. Refrigerant (gas)
4. Interior plastics
5. Evaporator
6. Condenser

Is it not stupidity to totally ban an item you can't even produce 10% of the required components?

It is exactly similar to banning importation of used cars.

There are steps to be taken before Protectionist policies are selectively implemented!

Why would this government ban importation of used cloths and fridges. We literally don't manufacture anything in this country. How many Nigerians can afford original jeans or Polo, abi they want everyone to be wearing Ankara.

Floods have destroyed olam farms, the largest rice farm in Nigeria.

A govt that cannot create dams to break the excess water coming from Cameroon will ban the imports of rice to create local production.

Is that not wuruwuru to the answer?
They just want to suffer Nigerians for nothing.

Although I see your point, protectionism can encourage monopoly, with consumers having to pay more for less quality.

A preferable option is higher tariff on these goods.

Besides, shouldn't the government lead the way by banning importation of petroleum products?

It's hypocrisy to import fuel, diesel, kerosene and then ban clothing.

I have bought two bags of rice last week Friday.

One for now, one for the Christmas period.

Nigerians better go stock up on rice.

Food inflation is coming.

Floods have destroyed Rice farms, and Buhari don't want to allow import to help you guys.

smh. I am sure that you are ignorant of the local economy and its capacity.

I pity most of you living in that bubble of negativity and ignorance about opportunities available even within Ngeria.

That explains why you all miss out. Do not blame anyone else apart from you for why you have been outcompeted in life.

How is banning used clothes protectionism? Unused clothes are not banned. The reasons cited for the ban have nothing to do with protectionism
