. . .Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come John 16:13

Jesus said in John 14:26,

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

The Christian life isn’t possible without the Holy Spirit. At best one can only have a nice religion without Him. The Holy Spirit brings the power of God into your life. He’s the one who nudges you from within to go and pray, and reminds you to study the Word. In your times of prayer, He brings words into your spirit, in other tongues, so that you’re able to commune with the Father in a holy heavenly language only He understands.

Always listen to the Holy Spirit. Often times He trains us to recognize and obey His voice. In the army, soldiers are drilled regularly, not because there’s war, but because they’re being prepared for war. They’re being trained to become tough and to learn to take orders. That’s the same way the Holy Spirit trains you. When He makes you do things, don’t ask “What’s the purpose?” He’s looking at a larger picture; He’s getting you ready and prepared for the future He has for you.

Sometimes while in church, the Pastor makes everyone stand up; don’t complain that he’s making you stand again and again. That’s not learning to listen to the Holy Spirit. You may not know, but He’s training you to endure hardness as a good soldier. You may wonder why your Pastor makes you pray for a long time, but it’s the Spirit training you to learn to stay at the place of prayer. There’s a training process in Christ, and you have to ensure you yield yourself totally to it.

Prayer

Dear Father, thank you for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. His presence is the greatest blessing I could ever have, for He is my advantage and the secret to the glorious and successful life. I yield myself totally to you dear Holy Spirit, to fulfill your ministry in my life and manifest your glory through me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Further Study

Acts 11:11-12
And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:

Acts 16:6-7
Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

I am sorry why should the pastor make the congregation stand    Where is this in the bible ?

The pastor is to feed the sheep not to LORD it over them.

And it is not the pastor who decides how long you pray to GOD, it is between you and GOD.

There are people who pray for weeks with no answers to their prayers because of wrong living, there are those who are obedient to GOD and a 1 minute prayer resolves the matter.

God is not after repititive , long prayers like the pharisees, but he is looking for holy men and women who live in obedience , fellowship and LOVE.

Please leave man made doctrines behind , yOUR LORD should be JESUS CHRIST and not MOG.

I've been to churches where the pastors tell the congregation to do things like raise one leg up or start spinning around or banging their heads hard or jump up and down for no apparent reason and I wonder what that has to do with salvation. I think some times these pastors just like to see how much power they have over these people. undecided

I'm sorry, but this is one of the silliest things I see in church. Are we so low in our thinking that this is even considered an effective way for us to learn or train? I don't think the Holy Spirit has much to do with it.

na wah oh
some people are just so smalll minded,
jesus could use his saliva and clay to heal a blind man, leprous naaman was told to wash in a very dirty water, these all sound stupid but yet this was the mind of god at work, whats now wrong if a pstor says all should stand its possible someone with a back pain could just be receiving his healing at that moment or something else, whatever the case is the issue is thats the mind of the spirit at that instant
the issue is not standing when the pastor says so but rather being responsive to the spirit of god.
Re: The Training Of The Spirit - Pastor Chris by nlMediator: 10:38pm On Aug 17, 2011
I get it. Because Jesus used some things that look silly, we should erase silliness from our vocabulary. Any thing silly that comes our way we should accept, because we'd be like Jesus. What is the point of being big-minded if our mind is only used as decoration?
Re: The Training Of The Spirit - Pastor Chris by Azibalua(f): 10:57pm On Aug 17, 2011
your mind is not mature enough to discern yet,if not you will ot critisise the write up
Re: The Training Of The Spirit - Pastor Chris by nlMediator: 3:04am On Aug 18, 2011
And real life proof that your mind is mature (or more mature than mine) is what? You guys never cease to amuse me: Eager to ascribe superiority to yourselves because you attend a particular church. If it makes you sleep better at night, please continue in your delusion.

Please, let us see further than the surface - Jo is simply using the "stand up for long" as an example.

Until he confirms that as something that is truly done rather than an illustration, allow him his day.

I do agree with nlmediator it is silly but Jo has not said he does not literally - give him benefit of the doubt

Where in the bible? That's funny. A pastor gives spiritual instructions. And the bible tells us to obey. For example. "LET US RISE UP TO PRAY" " LET US LIFT OUR HSNDS IN WORSGHIP" " LET US SING THIS SONG IN WIRSHIP" "you may be sitted" etc these are instructions . Are you saying you don't have instructions in your church? grin

The pastor is to feed the sheep not to LORD it over them.

You're right but what has it got to do with ma post?

And it is not the pastor who decides how long you pray to GOD, it is between you and GOD.

You said you attend deeper life. If it's true ,then your post doesn't make sense. Because I've heard the deeper life pastor determine when prayer is to end by shouting "IN JEEESUS NAME , WE PRAAY" and every body praying stops. I'm nit criticising him . That's leadership.

There are people who pray for weeks with no answers to their prayers because of wrong living, there are those who are obedient to GOD and a 1 minute prayer resolves the matter.

the first training God will give you is submission to leadership. You can't handle spiritual leadership without being under spiritual authority. There is training in God.

Some churches stands up to pray ,some others kneel down to pray. If you are in a church and such instructions are given you ought to obey if not you are rebellious . What's your business bring there if you're not willing to submit to the spiritual authority in that place

Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

That has nothing to do with my post. But there are times certain spiritual instructions comes like . A pastor tells people to place there hands on their head while he prays for them. Or things like that . The reason for such is that he may not be able to lay hands on all of them because of time ,so he use their own hsnd as points of contact .

Other times a pastor wants to teach people how to use their own authority to deal with problems by telling them to place their hands in the ares where they feel pain and command the pain to go by themselves . All these are spiritual instructions.

That I obey the instructions when given does not make it any less silly. When I've been to Nigerian churches - which are about the only places I've seen such silliness - and instructions were given, I've complied. And I'm not talking of the examples you gave, but referring to a situation the pastor is preaching and asking people to stand from time to time. Like somebody said, it looks like a way of showing how much power they have over the congregation. In your world, nothing from the pastor can ever be questioned or analyzed. And the other examples of Jesus (or Elisha) giving instructions that look silly do not cut it - their instructions were targeted to the speciic individuals that needed them, not instruct thousands to reach one or two people. Is it not the same Holy Spirit directing today's pastors and prophets? Wonder why Nigeria is so backward? People hardly use their mind.

It's carnal for you to use such language as "SILLY" in your reference to the church. Ive explained my post . If you have something new to teach ,you can open a new thread on the "silly" in the churched. You don't have to twist my post to mean what I didn't say.

Do you have a church ? Do you have a pastor? Are there instructions given there? Or you fo as you like.?

Not surprised at the turn. First, it was accusation of rebellion. When you saw it had no basis, you shift to carnality. Such is the level of spiritual control or manipulation that goes unchecked in Nigerian churches. Nobody can ask questions. You have to accept everything a pastor says because he's all-knowing. If I wanted to belong to a cult, don't I know what to do? Funny enough, when these pastors realize their errors about certain things, it's the same people promoting this form of control that will turn round to talk about how the pastor hears from the Holy Spirit; has moved on to higher truth; then ridicule those still clinging to lesser truth. In essence, everything is right until pastor sees and says it is wrong. And if calling a **practice** silly is carnal, I wonder what it is when you quote scriptures about "foolish and unlearned questions" to dismiss people's posts here or call them clowns. I guess those people are not part of the church, since they don't belong to yours.
