I don't understand most of you. You live in Nigeria. All you had to do was google "Lagos State tenancy law". I live outside Nigeria and that was what I did a few minute ago after reading your post.

I also do not understand what tribe has to do with this issue and hence why you had to tell us it is a house owned by Yorubas. I almost did not send you these two links and the details because I don't do anything with or for tribal bigots regardless of what tribe. We are all Nigerian citizens and that's the end of it.

Following the law, write a formal letter to your landlord and inform him of your rights within the law in terms of the length of notice period. Inform your landlord that you will have no other option than to inform the Police if he continues to harass you.

On the other hand, if your Landlord is currently acting within the terms of the Lagos State tenancy law, then you will have to park out. It is your duty to understand the laws of where you live. If you don't move out, your landlord is within his rights to take you to court. But be sure he has issued you the Notice To Quit as prescribed by law and in the correct format.

Note that your Landlord cannot evict you by himself. The magistrate court will have to give that order after the Landlord has shown that he or she has complied with the two types of quit and repossession notices he ought to have issued you.

If he continues with the "graga", report him at your local Police precinct for not following the law and make sure you understand the sections and elements of the law he has not followed.

When one litigate which is the sane thing to do, next is the mantra that 'some persons like taking their irrational Landlord to court.

Na money wey i know get nai make me no fit get lawyer. I learnt that getting a lawyer is expensive or very expensive.

2ndly, the landlord's 2 elder brothers living with us used up money meant for Nepa bill and toilet bill contributed among the tennants for themselves. So, they said we should contribute money again but i refused that was what led to the disagreement btw i and my landlord. He was siding his brothers. Note: I'm the only Christian in the compound, the rest are Yoruba muslims(including the landlord's brothers) and one Hausa muslim man in the compound. And the brothers of the landlord are fetish. They have used Juju to close the mouths of other tenants to complain, because their juju didn't have any effect on me, they see us as threats and wants us pack out.

If you are in Lagos go to your LGA secretariate and report it. They have a special office there that deals with this sort of case. They hate landlords there and will deal with us legally.. seriously to protect you tenants.

Simply involve the authorities. He has no right to eject you without enough notice.


First try to talk to him that he should give you time. If he refuses, involve the police let them spell it out to him how it is done.your rights must be protected as a tenant.
