Dear Candidates,

If you have not applied to a Job in a long time, do not just apply. Ask questions before your next application.

For those candidates who have not applied to any job in the last 7 years, please rework your CV, update it, ask questions, and do your research about the expectations on the job and current trends with interviews.

Most Employees who have not applied to any job in a while, because they have been working in a particular place for longer years always make a lot of mistakes when they make a decision to change jobs and this can cost them success in getting a new job.

Mistakes Made by Such Candidates:

👉Do not research the company.
👉Come with very lengthy CVs (10 pages)
Only you have one company but you have used 2 pages to do the job description, coming with 30 bullet points for one company.
👉Dress shabbily to interviews.
👉Most times misinterpret the questions they are asked and would not admit they are wrong.
👉Refuse to get any form of help before the interview because they feel they are highly experienced.
👉Come to Interviews with a High & Mighty attitude and will argue through everything with the interviewer.
👉Look down on interviewers because they physically look younger than they are
👉They lack basic interviewing ethics.


Things to do if you have not gone through any recruitment process in a long time and you want to make a job change;

👉 Before you apply to any job, copy the JD of the role you intend to apply to and research on it to see how you fit it.

👉 Research interview trends & answers.

👉Ask those you know who applied to jobs recently and got hired about tips on success.

👉Give your CV to a professional CV expert to update it to the industry standard.

👉 Should you get an invite for interviews, acknowledge it with a well-drafted short email.

👉Ensure to communicate well during interviews, and listen to understand (that you have 7 years of experience in a particular field does not make you an expert especially if you have not upskilled yourself in a while).

👉Do not give a flimsy excuse when the interviewer asks questions about skills that you have not upgraded in a while (⛔do not say I don't think I need it or There is no money).

It is okay to be an experienced candidate who has stayed in a company for a long but it is of utmost importance to arm yourself with the right information when the need arises especially if you have intentions of changing jobs.
