Do we have first class graduates who are unemployed, just like the many unemployed 2:1 and 2:2 in the market? What percentage would you say is unemployed or not gainfully employed within the 1st class graduates. This question is not an insult or has no Ulterior motive at all, it's just to understand something that is on my mind. |

First class graduate say in computer science may still have to register for an online IT skill to fully grasp the concept of what he/she went to school to study and graduated 1st class for. So it depends on the discipline. First class in some courses of study is meaningless without the proper technical skills to deal with real life problems. 5 Likes 1 Share |

First class do have jobs because to the employers it means they can succed amidst distractions and are fast learners. Some universities give retention option to their graduates while some graduates refuse the offer for better ones after school. Majority of the unemployed are unemployed for these reasons 1. Pride 2. Greed 3. "not settling for less" 4. Refusing to serve under anyone. 2 Likes |

sacajawea:Omoh... We're many :- First class graduates that are gainfully employed in our current Nigeria are those with Oga at the top .. I mean strong connections.. Those with wealthy parents will be sent abroad to continue with their studies.. Majority of others that have means would Japa because they're not appreciated here.. While those without helpers will continue hustling, roaming the streets and looking for any means to survive.. .. It's so unfortunate |

They definitely are employed, they are ranking at the top of the educational block, to get work shouldn't be difficult at all for a first class degree holder even in terrible economy. The bowl of contention is if they actually end up wealthy. Permanent employment is a bait to poverty most times, they absorb you fully and if you are not smart enough, you may never be able to have a thriving business of yours and I don't think I have heard of a Billionaire employee. The moment you work permanently in a firm, your chances to make more money will be limited. All you will be thinking of is how to be a good employee while your boss packs the most money 7 Likes 1 Share |

Xmanmax:Don't challenge if you are not a first class graduate. If you are then prove it here. And I will prove mine. Even private secondary schools are looking for first class graduates to employ with good pay. So what are you insinuating. First class who is not employed has chosen to remain unemployed or cannot defend his credentials. There are jobs everywhere, even with little connections, you can never be unemployed. 2 Likes |

Dybala11:Underemployment you may say and diversion of career prospects. A first class graduate of engineering could be found teaching. While first class biochemist could be found in banks. But the conflict is the owners of the cert., are u egocentric? Any first class who is unemployed has chosen to be unemployed. Characters differ. 3 Likes |

zexy2030:You're right though. I'm a vivid example of that career diversion you talked about. Even though I wasn't a trained teacher, I've been teaching for about a year since I finished NYSC now. My argument is just that, it's difficult if not impossible to achieve your goals while underemployed. Getting paid peanuts won't get any individual anywhere bro. And I really disagree with you on the statement you made concerning private secondary schools looking for first class graduates with good salary offer. Where I'm working right now, it's like a criminal offence to be a first class graduate bro. About 2/3 other teachers there also graduated with first class. The work load on us is quite much, all in the name of being a first class graduate. This Nigeria no balance at all. We move anyway. 4 Likes |

Xmanmax:I'm equally a first class graduate, and I already have a job opening before my NYSC. Infact, I currently serve in a company where I'm paid 70+ as a corp member. My point is, you are just unlucky. All you needed to do was to ask for guidance on how to get connected as a first class graduate and stop making fool of your academic prowess. 1 Like |
