Please I Need Advise On Studying In UK by Bokeeto(m): 12:13am On Dec 13, 2022
Greetings Nairalanders, I would appreciate your candid advice about traveling to UK for my post graduate studies.

Recently my brother's friend migrated to the UK.

He told my brother about the process, now my brother wants me to be the one to travel to UK.

My people are planning to raise funds, we're looking at 5-6 million naira or more.

I want to know if this is a smart move.

Would this venture worth the risk....

What is life in UK like...

What do I need to have to make it there

What should I expect studying in UK

Which soft skills can fetch me more money

Aside from UK, which other countries I can be studying and working part-time to make a living.

Please I would appreciate your contributions, God bless you all.....❤️✊

Greetings Nairalanders, I would appreciate your candid advice about traveling to UK for my post graduate studies.

I come from a family of 4, all of us are graduates but none is gainfully employed, thanks to Nigeria's bad government system.

We've been struggling to make ends meet for a long time, no notable achievements from we the children.

My mom is late and my dad is a retired civil servant, so recently my elder brother's friend and his wife migrated to the UK.

He told my brother about the process, now my elder brother wants me to be the one to travel to UK so things can change for good in the family.

My people are planning to sell almost all of the landed properties we have, we're looking at 5-6 million naira or more.

I'll be 27 by March next year, I want to know if this is a smart move.

Would this venture worth the risk....

I'm a guitarist here, can I do anything with over there?

6 million is too low for Canada. Op go to Finland, admissions are currently open and will close in January.

Okay boss, but how do I get to know about other things like the kind of jobs that could be available, accomodation and the rest.

I would appreciate any vital info on that, or a link to where I can read it up....!

You should start researching now o. Admission is open once a year for Finland if you miss January you don miss o till 2024 be that. Honestly, if you can you are better off in other European countries. The Uk doesn't have much to offer in terms of economic prospects.

If you have a good grade (2.1 minimum) and your bachelor's was in the science field aka STEM, I strongly recommend you aim at the US. Use that money to assiduously prepare for the GRE and TOEFL so that you get a fully funded position. Depending on your overall profile, you might get one and you won't need to spend 6 million However, your likely entry will be in June/July/August 2024 as you apply for next year's Fall season ahead on resumption in 2024.

P.S. The program must be fully funded. That is, you get paid to study, you won't pay a dime. So, it is the reason you are meant to write the GRE (hit 330) and attain a good TOEFL score to stand a chance.

convert your first year school fee and add 10,000 CAD as cost of living. So if your first year fee is 15,000 CAD then add 10,000 CAD as cost of living. So the visa officer wants to see atleast 25,000 CAD. Now in naira 25,000 CAD at bank rate is at 8m plus.

But you can only assess tuition at bank rate through form A. So you need to do more research, Uk isn't a bad option too.

UK is not a bad option just that you will always need a reason to stay back in UK after your study.

Masters....
Post study visa (if you are given)
Then you need to start looking for a job to sponsor your visa. UK is not really that easy compare to Canada....just that U need better money for Canada.

He should not even try US
The rate of rejection at US embassy now is alarming. No long talk
Just rejection straight
Fully funded or not

Any evidence to see? Not anecdotal data. I ask because throughout my time reading the US student visa thread, I have read only one rejection for a fully funded candidate who later re-applied and was issued the visa. When I mean full funding, it is from the school, not personal finances.

That would be as a PhD student. I have no idea if master's students are allowed to carry dependants along.
