IMC plans glamorous draw event for NPFL Abridged League season Plans have concluded to stage a glamorous 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Draw event to usher in the new season, which starts on January 8. The Interim Management Committee (IMC) says that bringing glamour to the Draw is integral to its strategic plans to add value to the NPFL and attract more followership and Corporate Sponsorship. Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the IMC hinted that at the heart of the plans is the invitation of former international and NPFL players to the event which holds on Wednesday, December 28 at Sandralia Hotel in Abuja. Further to this, the IMC also disclosed through a memo to the clubs, that it has secured the approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to hold the draw for an abridged format of the season. In the memo, the IMC wrote, “Recall the meeting of IMC with Clubs Owners on the 21st December 2022 at Sandralia Hotel, where it was decided that the IMC will inform the NFF on the decision to organise the draws for the 2022/2023 league on December 28, 2022 and that the league will commence on January 8, 2023 on Abridged League Format…” “The purpose of this letter is to convey the approval of the NFF to organise the draws on December 28, 2022 and the League will commence on the 8th January 2023 on an Abridged League Format,” the memo stated. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/imc-plans-glamorous-draw-event-for-npfl-abridged-league-season/ 1 Like 1 Share

NPFL: Champions Rivers United Start Title Defence Against Lobi Stars Defending champions Rivers United will face Lobi Stars in their opening fixture of the 2022/23 season on January 8. The encounter will take place at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt. The draw ceremony for the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League season took place in Abuja on Wednesday. The 20 teams have been divided into two groups of 10 teams each after the interim Management Committee decided to adopt an abridged format for the new season. The top three teams in each group will meet in a league format to decide the overall winner. The IMC has earmarked N100m as cash prize for the overall winner. All the 20 clubs will get N10m each before the season commences. NPFL: IMC Releases Approved Venues For 2022/23 Season Former champions, Rangers and Lobi Stars have failed to meet the infrastructure requirements of the NPFL club licensing regulation and will be playing their home matches at venues approved by the Interim Management Committee (IMC). Three other clubs, Nasarawa United, Kwara United and Niger Tornadoes also failed the requirements. Davidson Owumi, head of operations of the IMC said that in strict adherence to the provisions of the NPFL Club Licensing Regulation, clubs that fail requirements will be held accountable. “We want to get it right from the start and this can only be achieved when the rules are followed”, he insisted. The 2022/23 NPFL season will kick-off on January 8. |

Match Review NPFL: Enyimba Beat Nasarawa United Away Enyimba defeated their hosts Nasarawa United 2-1 in a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League contest at the New Jos Stadium on Saturday. Elijah Akanni fired home a powerful shot in the 32nd to hand the People’s Elephant the lead. Imo Obot increased the lead five minutes later. Enyimba have now scored two plus away goals in the NPFL for the first time in two seasons. Oche Josiah reduced the deficit for Nasarawa United three minutes from time with a header after Ojo Olorunleke denied Ikenna Offor from the spot. Nigeria Premier League Week one Review: NPFL Recap: Four away wins on matchday one as favourites struggle Matchday one in the Nigeria Premier Football League produced a number of interesting results with two away wins in Group A and Group B. Eight-time champions, Enyimba put up a dominant display in the 2-1 win against Nasarawa United at the New Jos Stadium. Newcomers Bendel Insurance also stunned former champions Akwa United 2-0 in Uyo in their first NPFL game in four years. Enyimba and Bendel Insurance top Group A along with Remo Stars, who defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 in Ikenne. In Group B, Abia Warriors, Niger Tornadoes and holders Rivers United are the early pacesetters. Abia Warriors recorded a 2-0 away win against Rangers in the Oriental derby at the Awka City Stadium. Emmy450: The league will run as an abridged this 2022/2023 this to enable them finish the league on time to produce Nigeria's representative for CAF competitions 2. Its also done as an abridged to enable the calendar align with others league and Europe.. Imagine that our league ended over 6 months ago and we just starting now. The abridged format has 2 group. A and B Each with ten teams, the top 3 from each group will proceed to do a playoff or what we call super 6 and the winner announced as the final league winner 1 Like |
