Member representing Bende federal constituency of Abia State, Rep. Benjamin Kalu said he went to the National Assembly to protect the interest of his people and not to sleep.

He stated this while he featured on ABN TV's Political Perspective.

Rep. Kalu, spokesperson of the House of Representatives said he has a feeling of fulfillment with the catalogue of milestones his legislative assignment has brought to his constituents in the last four years.

The lawmaker stressed that he started nursing his political ambition in 2001 in preparation for an election that took place in 2003 but he was told that he was too young.

According to him, he was never deterred from pursuing his ambition, as he waited for 17 years later, a period within which he garnered more experience from various arms of government, including local government where he served as chairman, later a member of State executive council, before he was eventually elected as a member of National Assembly in 2019.

“Project wise, with regards to the mandate of the constitution on this position which includes representation, lawmaking, and oversight function.

“We have done favorably well with regards to these three demands of our mandate because we have analyzed the needs of our people and have highlighted them before the parliament,” he said.

He assured the people of the constituency that as their representative, he will continue to seek solutions to their needs, stating that the regular town hall meeting which he put in place to engage stakeholders has been useful in carrying them along.
