Based on my experience in the last car service in Osogbo, I want to awaken all car users to be vigilant when they visit a mechanic workshop. I traveled for yuletide from Abuja in December 2022 with my CRV 2008 model car, I had 2,000 kilometers left before the next service, and I decided to service in Osogbo. I bought semi Synthetic mobile oil and a white oil filter, essential items for the service. I handed them to the mechanic and the service was done while my friend and I were discussing beside the car. To my amazement, I warmed the car the following morning, and I noticed a knocking sound for a few seconds, and I kept wondering where the sound was coming from.

Because the sound doesn't happen every time, I decided to drive back to Abuja; maybe the system would reset. I arrived in Abuja, and the following day, I checked to see if it had disappeared, but to my surprise, it had become longer. I drove to Apo mechanic, and different suggestions were coming from other mechanics, ranging from a lousy camshaft to a weak Oil pump and different names.

To God be the glory, a thought just came to my mind that I should change my oil and the oil filter since the issue started just after I serviced. To my most resounding surprise, the oil filter I bought, which was white, eventually became blue, and the oil was so black, like it had not been serviced for months. I later discovered the mechanic in Osogbo exchanged the filter while under the car for a dead one. Please, my people, if you have to bend and confirm the parts they are changing for your vehicle, please do. God just saved me from 750k, which would have been the cost to replace my engine because of the 1k oil filter.

There was a time my mom's car had a fault and a spare part had to be changed. The spare part was something under the car. My mom was not around to supervise, so, I went there so that I will supervise the "changing" of the spare part. When I got there, lo and behold, i met the mechanic under the car and he said the fault has been fixed. OK sir. Where is the old part that was replaced? He said he already left it at Ibadan where he went to buy the new one, since it was not usable again. shocked grin. Haaaaa!

After women, fear Nigerian mechanics o! grin

Lol...

Till date, I never leave my car for a mechanic/rewire/panel beater/car washer/ car detailer/...

Whatever it is they are doing, I am standing beside them and observing.. Not sitting and observing o, I stand toe to toe with them.. If dem enter under the car, I follow them enter.. If dem crawl enter engine, I follow them too,..

I no dey for "Oga go siddon na", or "Oga come around 3 come carry your moto"..Anything wey mecho no fit fix for my moto as I stand dey look am, make e forget am..Those Naija mechs have shown me enough shege for 6 lifetimes..

Funny enough, when I find myself in 1st world countries, I feel very comfortable leaving my vehicle.. Simply because the system there works and I can easily get them to be held accountable for any mishap arising from their work.

But in naija, na God I dey use beg my mechanic to tie some of my car nut wey e forget for floor.. Sometimes, I dey even buy am im brand of kaikai make e for put beta eye for my car, make e no go forget the forget wey go cost me my life..

If na car damage, e still dey OK small... God wey give me the moni to buy the car go provide moni to fix am, or buy another . But these mechanics' mistake can also cost one his life or limb if he isn't careful.. Na why I dey always hover around like vulture whenever any naija car technician dey work on my car.
