It is wrong to call the Oba of benin just the word oba, very wrong oba is the short form the European used to describe his original title
Which is omo n' oba, omo n' oba on the other hand is also a short form the benin people use to refer to the omo n'oba of benin the full title
Is Omo n’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo meaning
"The child that shines shines or come through for the edo people and the giant being"
If you hear anyone using the title oba of benin always know it is wrong and inappropriate and was a short form the European used to describe the Oba in their document the short form reconginse by the edos is omo n' oba which can be pronounced as omo no' ba
Further more the yorubas are using the wrong title to describe themselves and their kings this is quiet understanding because the word oba is alien to the yorubas

OGIE
Ogie has many prefix from different edoid clan, ogie is a general word for kingship regardless of the position be it enogie, onogie, Ovie, ogie could be liking to the word Government regardless of the position be it a governor, president or a local government chairman, we can say an ogie is coming and could be refering to an enogie who is a Duke and we can also say an ogie is coming, and we could be refering to the omo n'oba of benin when we say ogie we mean royalty which are dukes, kings prince just like the word government

OBA
Oba like I said is the short form used by Europeans to refer to the omo n'oba of benin
No one in the entire kingdom or empire bears the title, the names in benin who has prefix with the word oba, like obaseki, obasohan were personal confered titles made by the Oba of benin to honor the person, it is forbidden to use the word oba without being confered by the Oba in the entire empire and this is the reason you cannot find the word oba as a prefix name in the entire empire but rather ogie which could be liking to the word government or royalty

This is exactly what i explained to someone here on NL.

When people here Oba of Benin, they should understand its a shortened form of the original title.

'Omo N'Oba N'Edo' translates to "the son of the king in Edo." Originally, it was "Omo Oba ni Ado," signifying the connection between Ife and Benin, highlighting the Oba of Benin's lineage from the Oba of Ile-Ife. In ancient times, "Ado" referred to Edo as called by Ile-Ife.
