Seven Key Factors That Affected APC During 2023 Presidential Elections. by fatosky1(m): 3:03am On Mar 04, 2023
The 2023 Presidential Elections came up on February 25, 2023. There are about 14 candidates that participated in the election but the election was in actual sense a three-horse race involving the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi and Alhaji Atiku Abubakah, the candidate of the PDP.

Having gone through a rigorous campaign, expectations are high and candidates are filled with great hope of successful results particularly the Jargaban who believed he would win with as landslide victory.

I hereby enumerate 7 factors in my humble opinion that affected his performance greatly even though he won the elections controversially as his victory is being contested by other parties.

1. Muslim- Muslim ticket- The Christian community across the country saw this as n afront that with over 200m population no single Christian is recognized to fly the APC flag other than another Muslim even when the outgoing President had a Christian vice.

2. End SARS Palava of October 20, 2020 where quite a number of youths were killed without Asiwaju lending his opinion to condemned the killing. As a matter of fact so many questions are lingering unanswered on who authorized military, number of people killed, denial by the APC government on that no killing occurred etc. The youths are greatly aggrieved and determined to "soro spoke" with a vote of no confidence.
3. The CBN naira redesign policy that curtail significantly the vote buying from electorate
4. The bad policies and poor performance of the APC led government for almost 8 years which have inflicted pain and suffering on Nigerians.
5. Marginalisation of the Igbo tribe in producing President which led to the "Obidient Movement", a cult followership of youths across the country supporting Peter Obi to wrestle power from APC government.
6. The youth agitation for a change from the old politicians who had dominated the political landscape since advent of the 4th Republic given young leaders in other countries.
7. Lastly but not the least- the physical and mental health conditions of the APC candidate to run the affairs of the government with his debilitating health made a number of voters skewed their votes from APC to other parties.

Thank you.
