I think what the law means there is, if as a merchant, you apply and collect pos terminal from your bank for the purpose of trading, receiving payment of sales from your customers, you shouldn't use same terminal for withdrawal and deposit business just like an accredited agent would do....

Before the use of POS terminals as agency banking, P O S which actually means Point of Sales terminal were solely used by merchants for the sole purpose of collecting payments... now enter Agency banking, where you now use the terminals to "cash-in" (deposit) and "cash-out" (withdraw).


now, due to the current situation, terminals supposedly marked out as "merchant terminal" are used as "agency banking" and that is what CBN is trying to stop.

The POS agents are responsible for this cash scarcity.They are on ATM machines looking for any available cash.And latter re-sell with over 30% margin

It seem most people that commented here are into POS. It is called point of sale designed mainly for payment at any business outlet not for money desposit or withdrawal. That's how it is being use for in the developed world. Most POS operators here in Nigeria doesn't have a business outlet for sales of any commodities or service but operate as arbitrage and mini banking .
