New Zealand officials announced on Friday that lawmakers and employees working in the nation’s Parliament will be prohibited from using the TikTok app on their government-issued phones.

The ban will be effective at the end of March and will only apply to around 500 individuals within the parliamentary complex. Other government agencies may decide to implement their own bans at a later date.



The decision to ban TikTok in New Zealand follows similar measures taken by several other countries. Concerns about the app have been raised globally following warnings from agencies such as the FBI, which suggest that TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, may share user data, including location, browsing history, and biometric identifiers, with the Chinese government.
