i am new here and needs your candid advice.

i studied educational management up to masters level with the dream of owning a school. i currently work in a school where i am gathering experience (poorly paid though).

we (i and my husband) have a plot of land in Badore lekki and four plots of land in Afero village in lekki with the plan of developing a school on them. from creche to secondary school.

i intend to start with daycare/creche in badore and i need your advice on how to start and make it work.

1- can i start from the flat we are developing

2- how many hands do i need

3- will it work considering the fact that the area is fully residential

3- do i rent a place in a commercial area where people can keep their kids and go to work

4- do i wait till the proper structure which is suppose to be 12 classrooms per floor be ready

please advise me appropiately and God bless your wisdom

Well good day to u mam i must confess that u really love the ducational sector to go all the way to masters level and even dreaming of owing a skl i must commend u very much
but to the issue at stake i read maths edu in skl 2005 and one thing i see in owning a skl is the zeal which u already acquire so much then the next step is taking the right decision on the choice of place or on the choice of structure
Well can u start with a flat u are developing the answer depends on how neat and how accesible the flat(location) is becos i dont think people wud want their kids to go to a skl that is located remotely
How many hands u need is not the problem but are they competent are they the right choice this are the questions ui shud ask ur self becos in having a new skl like yours u need devoted personells that are going to work to build u an educational empire.
Fully residential that wud make it work marvelously but it depends on ur rapport with the neighbours if they are nice then u got urself a nice start becos people in nigeria see things diffenrently wen it comes to keeping their wards with people so if they feel they can trust u then u got no problem
Waiting 4 the right building is not the case the case is getting started with something but not just anything like u rightly put u are gonna start with a flat but let it be a very nice one then u got urself a skl
And also u are still gonna need some kind of familiarization of the environment thats telling the people of ur plans and how u intend to keep their wards u shud start by gettig the parents u know then u go out
And also ur fees shud be relatively low atleast for the time being
At least u said u teach in a skl that gives u an edge becos u wud have a direct contact with the parents then u can start by telling them wat ur plans are then u wud know 4 sure how many kids u are gonna start with and wat ur staff wud look like
Also Nigerians love free things why dont u set up a kind of lesson for the kids in ur neighbourhood free of charge that way u wud be grabbing some kids and wen u actually start u wud be on ur way to the top
i hope u take the points that are useful to u and work on them

@ poster,

You can start small and then grow into a larger school. Same with employing teachers - you can start with few teachers then employ more teachers as the need arises.

good luck wink

I stay in lekki i think your decision to start a school is right, But you should also consider the less privilleges within the area. I believe if you tailored ur school to helping the less privilledge in the area you will go far. Yes start with the flat. and few teachers and set ur goals and missions let ur teaches know and work on it. Am available for more talk. dan4pastor@yahoo.com

The originator of this NAIRALAND has never ask money from anyone. NAIRALAND is non- profit and a big enlightenment and knowlege desemination outfit designed free from any form of exploitatative and dubious tricks. It is aburd for Didisky to ask for a fee from a member asking for genuine advise on how to set up a school. Please let us all keep faith with the objectives of this talkshop.

My advise concerning setting up of educational outfit are as follows:

ASSETS

1. You already have a M.Ed. You are already skilled in the job with your job experience.
2. You have a flat.
3. You probably did not have enough fund - I guess, but you have landed property.

Setting up of school required adequate funding. Please do not borrow. Use what you have to get what you want. You may start with creche and later graduate to nursery and later primary and so on. Make sure the environment is clean. let us know the amont you have as take off fund. then we may advise you the more

hiya, my husbands sister has got school in Enugu, kids from nursery to secondary class, around 200of them, she started with few kids in living room, god bless her. Only determination and sense of purpose can keep this wonderful dream on. Mind you, few years on and it’s still far from profitable (but fulfilling I guess!) Can post some pictures if interested. Good luck!

Hi People,

I am a qualified secondary school teacher from London. Unlike Nigeria, the pay in England for teachers in very good. I would say the pay is around 10,0000000 Naira a year plus benefits
I was thinking about relocating to Nigeria to become a teacher but the pay is not very good so the would not be possible.
I would love to set up a school in Nigeria and employ teachers who are reliable and who are as passionate about education as I am.
I have a very good friend in London who works for Shell and I am in the process of getting sponsership from his company.
If anybody has any advice about how I would go about opening a school it would be much appreciated.
Thank you

OpenSSH permits people to port forward and utilize it as a SOCKS-compliant proxy. These aspects can be very helping when working over uncertain networks or with limiting firewalls. We want to ask about bestessays.com promo codes in the room. With both of these aspects, network traffic devising from a host looks like to create from the remote OpenSSH server. The traffic among the OpenSSH client and the OpenSSH server is encrypted by the SSH protocol.
