If you've used courier services offered by VFS, you'd have noticed the indemnity clause that absorbs VFS of any penalty arising from the loss of your International Passport deposited with them at the time of your visa application.

Two weeks ago I submitted two visa applications with the Abuja Center of VFS. The first was for South Africa (9am), the second, Denmark (11am). This is possible because I'm not required to deposit my passport for South Africa visa application.

I had my documents checked and confirmed OK. Paid the necessary fees, submitted. Then proceeded to the Denmark section where I passed all the necessary procedures and also submitted. I left the center around 2:49pm thereabouts. Immediately I stepped into the office, I got a call from the South African section of VFS asking me to bring a copy of my passport data page - they had misplaced the one I submitted.

Fast-forward... I picked up my passport from UPS as dispatched by the Danish Embassy (I couldn't wait for UPS to deliver to my home. I was traveling out of town that day).

Today (one week later), I got a call from a delivery guy from UPS. He said he had a parcel for me from VFS. I was surprised, because I had picked up my passport, and I wasn't expecting my South African visa to be ready in such a short time - moreso, I'd not submitted my passport for stamping. Nonetheless, I asked him to come, I was in the office.

UPS guy arrived with a parcel from VFS, the applicant had applied for Swedish Visa; a different name from mine, but the address and phone number on the parcel were mine. I told the rider to return the parcel, it wasn't mine. This was definitely a mistake from VFS, and I'm sure if this person's passport gets lost in the process of handling, VFS will have no explanation nor compensation whatsoever for Ibeh.

This is bad... But then, anything goes in Nigeria.

This is very scary!

What kind of negligence is this? On top all their usual time wasting and exorbitant fees!
