I just rented a new apartment last month in Lagos, before I did, the caretaker took me to the lawyer incharge of the apartment, their I did some documentation and he talked about the rules and regulations of the house and also the fact that I have to make sure I pay a month before my rent expires, I was in his office for over 2hours, after the documentation and all, he told me I'll still have to go and meet the landlord again, which I did.
I moved into the apartment a week after I paid the rent and other fee attached. Problem started last week when I went to pick my dog from where I was previously staying, neither the landlord nor lawyer told me pets of any kind was not allowed in the compound, although the house has a small compound , I have to park to always park my car outside due to the size of the compound, it has no parking space atall and there are about 17 people in the compound.
When I got home I chained the dog at d back of the house close to the storex, the landlord wife came to meet me and told me was I not told pets are not allowed in the house, I told her nobody told me that. I was going to look for a carpenter to help me construct a cage for the dog outside my room but the lawyer keeps calling me and threatening to sue me to court if I don't take the dog away from the house, I asked him why didn't he tell me that b4 I rented d apartment me, he said I'm suppose to know myself and I should have consulted him before bringing the dog home. He called me tonight to tell me other tenants are complaining about the dog that I should take the dog away from the house, if not he would sue me to court.
Please pardon my errors, I had to park beside the road just to type this. I really need your advice on this matter because I'm really confused, if they had told me, I wouldn't have rented the apartment, please advice me on what to do.

Hmmm, pets are usually defined in house agreements. Surprised how that clause was omitted. Since there's no documentation to this effect, a verbal communication does not hold waters. What I'd suggest is for you to find a separate space for your dog. Not everyone likes pets, truth be told. Use common sense and make sure ur actions give you peace of mind.

Thank you for you advice, I told the lawyer I was going to get a cage for the dog but he say no, I must take the dog out of the house.
If he or the landlord had informed me about their no pet law, I wouldn't have rented the apartment

Quite a situation here. What options do you have?

I'm not sure of what to do, that's why I came to seek advice on this platform. The option left for me is to start paying to dog for boarding which won't cost less than 3-5k everyday....where do I want to see that kind of money??
I just want to know should incase they decide to go to court, is there any possibility that I might loose the case even with all the explanation I gave. Also if the decide to refund me, will they pay for renovation I made, cost of transporting my loads down to this place and all. Cos they actually caused all this problem themself

Bro you just stated that it is a crowded compound shouldn’t your initiative tell you that alot of them would be scared of dogs or whenever you walk the dog on the roads don’t 2 out of 3bget scared even when the dog might be an infant! Compounds that allow dogs are usually not more than 4 tenants. Get rid of the dog or move out bro. Why would u even take a compound without a parking space, even if you don’t have a car yet you will be telling God indirectly that you don’t need the blessing.
