Are you aware that as a first step civil service salaries have gone up 40% and that the increase is accrued under non taxable benefits? Why don't you exercise patience.

And those with no job?

When the fgn did that with cash credits did some Nigerians not say it was fraud or bribery? When they gave collateral free loans to traders and employed graduates under various programs was it not criticised?

The Government is doing the best thing. Starting with verified addresses and Bvn's. From there grow the cash palliative outwards and ignore criticism. There is no way of pleasing the general populace.

In Scotland jobless people line up to receive stipend of 100000 every two weeks. IMF wouldn't advise UK to stop this. Transportation in Scotland is almost free. Education is free amongst others. The only thing government provides for free in Nigeria is fuel at a relatively low cost yet IMF wants the best brain in Nigeria to leave the country. This is where this is driving to.

Them don collect the loan already. That's what is disturbing me

Ask yourself "am I in the civil service"?

There is no known Nigerian who has come out to acknowledge receiving any of these FG Grants.

Wema is a fraudulent bank.
It harbours majority of the fraudsters in Nigeria.
Useless bank.

When you are saying this in respect of Wema, what would you say about Zenith and UBA?

If a poor man on the street has nothing to do with fuel then removing subsidy is a great deal. As far as Nigeria is concern the only government presence I feel is getting fuel at a relatively low price.
Outside Nigeria the common man hardly knows the price of petrol reason being that there is 24 hours power supply. Transportation is subsidised. IMF wouldn't tell our leaders that UK and other developed countries subsidised transportation cost for her citizens.
The way cost of living will rise at the removal of subsidy may lead to rebellion that the president will find hard to quell. Tinubu should go back to the drawing board and identify ways to close gaps.
He should better apply his thinking faculty to properly research this policy, think it through thoroughly before implementation. if it not properly handled it will surely engulf and devour his government in a twinkle of an eye.

How many people in the over 200,000,000 people are FG civil servants?

Only 40% increase in salaries? For over 300% fuel increase Fuel is around 230 now. Inflation is already over 22%!

If fuel now sells for over 700 which is times 3 of the current price, do you understand the kind of galloping inflation that will happen?

The cost of living will skyrocket and the evil government has borrowed money when they haven't even removed the subsidy to share among themselves while trying to deceive themselves that 50 Million poor people will receive 8k each ! To do what exactly

Hell on earth is waiting for these thieving liars that are in government undecided

N. B Nigeria has become no 1 poorest country only wants to push more millions of people into the poverty circle

Do nothing you are damned, do something you are damned. Do things in stages you are damned. Instead of trying to turn subsidy into a political football, why dont you explain your alternative plan.

Never said it includes state workers. It could well be that state salaries that are exclusively within the state's exclusive list will be addressed by grants to the states for this purpose. The important thing is that some steps have begun. If you have a well-thought-out strategy for how this could be better done please let's hear it.

You talk about a 400% increase as if it will remain at 400% forever. When you free up an industry, competitive pressure forces down prices. The cost of sim cards approaches zero today but they were very expensive in 2000. Furthermore, the Dangote refinery is coming onstream and there will be an availability of supply. The additional taxes on petroleum profits can be easily recycled back into the system and while prices may rise across the board the fact that more players will come out in all industries will ultimately reduce prices.

It is also likely that import duties on solar panels will drop tremendously. We are seeing an upsurge in demand for solar that will; weaken demand for petrol and diesel with an impact on prices. You have to look at the ecosystem effect caused by a range of solutions rather than isolating the 40% increase. If pay rises were 400% what would that do for inflation that is sky-high?

Your point would be better made if you could provide your own alternative plan and not nebulous and fairy-like platitudes. Contrast plan vs plan. Its easy to breakl things down but more mentally challenging to provide workable solutions. This is the bane of Nigerian "intelligence"

Waiting for your plan. When they did conditional cash credits you said it was a fraud, free school meals fraud, trader moni, fraud, graduate employment schemes fraud. Why don't you explain your alternative after all I believe you've thought about the matter beyond the level of mere criticism.

It is you that's dammed. Not I

I don't need to explain anything because no one listens. The onus is on every sane person how to survive or escape it.

You don't even understand the expression "Do and you are damned.." cheesy My friend no one is cursing you o

But saying "...the onus is on every sane person..." to escape is pardon me, intellectual laziness. That's, not a plan that's a white flag of surrender.

I take your point. Nigeria can't run refineries. However there is a massive privately owned refinery coming on stream this year that will change the availability equation.

Yes, everybody wants to throw brickbats st the government. Its fine. It lets off steam but there are emerging realities we need to factor in. If those emerging realities make the situation better we can't ignore them simply because we want to keep throwing brickbats.
