Many decision we make if we have the result of hindsight could make it better. But that is life.

While setting up yourself for your career, the best is sometimes to make all the touch point then whatever path it result to matterless. But the trust is that we just don't have all the time or resources to do that.

That side, one important one I like you not to trivialize is publishing your research work. You see I once work for a national research institute and one way promotion is done is by how much of publication you've done. Infact this is even graded on where you publish and if you are the main author or contributing.

You might think, after all I have not going into academics, but having this luxury especially at the basic level of your undergraduate research or post graduate is not too much.

Your contribution to the tree of knowledge have just not find expression in the world if you don't set yourself up for this and the research only end up in your departmental library or personal library.
